' County Court Action Listed Expenditures by Klamath Coun ty governmental departments aur ine the first four months of the 1957-58 fiscal year are fairly well in line and are not to any notice able degree exceeding the rate of spending provided for in the coun ty budget, report members of the Klamath County Court, the court received expenditure reports for -the-Jirst third of the year during the iegular Wednesday morning meeting. W A aanlne holo in a North End boulevard widened rapidly (or a time early today and police ordered 60 per sons to be ready to evacuate their homes at a moment's notice. The huge hole, caused by a sew er break Monday, was more than 60 feel deep. Its edge crumbled away at the rate of about a foot a minute for a brief period prior to 1 a.m. so that the hole's top meas ured approximately 200 feet by 100 feet. When the rapid crumblinc ceased, the lip of the huge crater was only nine feet away from the foundation of the nearest home, one of nine threatened. Also in jeopardy was a five-unit apart ment nouse. The hole developed in a neigh borhood of homes in the $15,000 to $20,000 class a few blocks north of the University of Washington campus. Water, backed up in sewers. was threatening other streets. Po lice said they were considering closing off Roosevelt Way. a main north-south arterial, because there were indications the ground be neath that street also was giving way. The idea has created quite a furore. Don Martin, assistant to the president of NARTB, said that by this method a message is flashed at 1 -3000th of a second, and repeated every five seconds during the showing of a movie. He said the viewer does not even see the message, or at least is not conscious of seeing it, but it does reach his brain. The board held that "any pro posal to use . . .
