OREGON PAGE FIVE BASIN BRIEFS Meeting Change The Merrill Boy Scout Pack meeting will be held on Wednesday evening, Oc tober 30. in the Merrill Recrea tion Hall at 7:30. This is a change for this month only from the usual last Thursday of the month due to Halloween. Altar Society St. Augustine's Altar Society of Merrill has set up its November meeting one week early to allow sufficient time to make plans for the annu al church bazaar to be held on Saturday, November 9. The meet ing will be held at the parish hall on Wednesday evening, October 30, at 7:30. All vomen of the par ish are requested to be present. Valley St. Barnabas Church cleared $125 on their two rummage sales instead of $25. The date has been set for the guild's annual bazaar and turkey dinner at Bo nanza school starting at 6 p.m. November 9. Rogue River visitors for the weekend were Mr. and Mrs. Ace Adams and Sylvia to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Brown and sons of Langell Valley. Injured Mr. and Mrs. George Thurman were in a car wreck four miles this side of Red Bluff when they were returning to their home at Richmond, California, aft er visiting her brother F. W. . Brown of Langell Valley. She suf fered a broken left knee, and be had a head injury. They, were in the hospital at Red Bluff three days before they could go to their home. BoBania Election for the may or, recorder, treasurer and three council members will be held at the Bonanza library November 5, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. There will also be an amendment to the charter to change the time and duration of the city election to coincide with the election laws of the state of Oregon. Meeting The Bonanza Womens Club will meet on Monday, Novem ber 4, for their regular meeting at 2 o'clock, and members are Correction The Guild of Langellfurged to attend. Florence Horn and Lillian Bechdoldt will be the hostesses. There will be a shower for the baby doll to be sold at the December bazaar. Civil Service Posts Open The United States Civil Service Commission has announced exam inations for the following positions: student trainee (highway engineer ing), $3,415 a year, highway en gineer and highway engineer (train ee), $4,480 a year; and medical officer (rotating intern, $3,100 a year, and psychiatric resident, $3,700 to $4,500 a year). The positions in the field of high way engineering are for duty prin cipally with the Bureau of Public Roads located throughout the Unit ed States, its territories and pos sessions. To qualify for the student trainee-positions paying $3,413 a year, applicants must have com pleted two and one-half years of study in civil engineering. For po sitions paying $4,480 a year, at least four years of appropriate col lege study or progressive technical engineering experience are re quired. Applications must be filed with the Board of U.S. Civil Serv ice Examiners for Highway and Bridge Engineers, Bureau of Pub lic Roads, Washington 25. D.C. The medical officer positions (ro tating intern and psychiatric resi dent) are for duty at St. Eliza beths Hospital, Washington, D.C. Fof rotating Intern positions, appli cants must be fourth-year students in an approved medical school. For psychiatric resident positions, ap plicants must be graduates of an approved medical school and must have completed a full year's in ternship. Applications must be filed with the Board of U.S. Civil Serv ice Examiners, St. Elizabeths Hos pital, Washington 20, D.C. Applications for all of these po sitions will be accepted until fur ther notice. Announcements and ap plication forms may be obtained at many post offices throughout the United States, or from the U.S. Civil Service Commission, Washing ton 25, D.C. Foresters Win New Positions LONGVIEW Promotion and transfer of two young foresters was announced this week by In ternational Paper Company's Long- Bell division. Warren Goldsmith, 36, resident forester at Weed for five years, moves to the post of forester of the Western Timber Department at Longview. Succeeding Goldsmith at Weed is Leonard C. Hincs, 37, who was timber cruiser for the company at Eugene for five years. Hines is an Oregon State College School of forestry graduate. He is married and the father of two daughters, Judy and Dcbby. Scouts Fort Klamath Scout Troop No. 34 will sponsor a com munity Halloween party and scout pack meeting in the C. 1. Club house Thursday. Open house will be held all evening beginning at 6. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy an evening of , fun, games and refreshments. Those planning to attend are asked to wear ap propriate Halloween costumes. Dorris Virginia Hamilton, city clerk and water bill collector, said this week that several more shutoffs will be made unless the water users in default make ar rangements to pay their old wa ter bills. Dunsmuir November 12 is the date of the annual luncheon and bazaar to be given by the Ladies Aid of the First Lutheran Church at the church social hall. Luncheon will be served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. ' Malin Assembly of Rainbow Girls will be visited on Wednesday evening, October 30, by .Mis. Anne -Metsker, supreme deputy of Ore gon, and Carol Hopman, grand worthy adviser. At 6 p.m. there will be a potluck dinner followed by a meeting at 8 p.m. All East ern Star members and Masons are cordially invited to attend. Hunting Lloyd Crawford and son Tommy. Bob Sealer and Billy Nelson, all of Langell Valley, are elk hunting near L'kiah. Born To-;Mr. and Mrs. Robert Micka of Malin a baby girl on October 22 at the Malin Medical Clinic. She weighed 8 lbs. 6 ozs. and has been named Judith Anne. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Albert .Micka, all of Ma lin. Visiting in Malin at the J. R. Ratliff Sr. home were their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Ratliff and daughter Virginia, to enjoy some pheasant and deer hunting. . Rainbow Girls of Malin are sell ing fruit cakes and the cakes can be obtained from any member of the assembly. i Former Malin Resident Charles Hamilton is ill in the hospital in Corvallis, Oregon where the Ham-j iltons now make their home. ! Elk Hunting are Mr. and Mrs, Homer Depuy Jr. of Malin. They -have gone to l'kiah, Oregon. : where the Lester Wilsons, other i Malinites, are also hunling. ' Meeting World Community Day will be held in the Mt. Laki Church, on the Merrill Highway, Friday November 1 at noon, with luncheon being served.' The Mt. Laki Ladies Aid will hostess the event. The noon luncheon will be followed by a world community day program. All lower Basin women are welcome. Jack Horn will show slides on the UN. McCloud The fall concert held the night of October 29 featured 115 members of the McCloud High School student body and elemen tary school band.
