Garcia, said the fire broke out in the living room about 8:15 a.m. and quickly engulfed the front part of the small house. The flames drove the parents out of the house and trapped the two children in the rear. Edwards tried three times to walk into the house through doors, hut each time the fire drove him back. He crawled through a win dow in a fourth attempt but when he opened the childrens' bedroom door,- a sheet of flame forced him to retreat. On a fifth rescue at tempt, his uniform caught fire and he barely managed to escape the house. Fire chief Richard Seiss said the blaze started near the childrens' bedroom and cans of paint under the boy's crib contributed to the Intensity of the flames. Damage was estimated at $12,500. Neither Garcia or his wife was injured seriously. ASPHYXIATED SAN MATEO (UP) -Mrs. Ruth Mclntyre, 40, was asphyxiated Sunday while sleeping on a smouldering sofa which police said apparently caught fire from t cigarette. Her husband. Louis, was over come when smoke from the blaze tilled the apartment, but he was revived at Mills Memorial Hos pital.
