I was Immature: I left my wife. I thought I would go farther single. It took me a couple of years to find out I was wrong." Actor Richard Jaeckel sat In a dreary, grim f o x h o 1 e make believe movie variety and talked glumly about the lesson I ve learned." Three years ago Richard was Terry Moore's handsome boy mend in "Come Back, Little Sheba." He won a Paramount con tract and was headed for stardom. Then he dropped out of movies. He also separated from his wife. Now Jaeckel Is back making a fresh start In pictures, in a war film by Independent producer Rob ort Aldrlch, "Fragile Fox." What happened to Richard? Actors who leave home blame their homes for their career prob lems, but It's (heir own problem of Insecurity," Jaeckel said as he pol ished his rifle. 'I went Hollywood to a certain extent. I didn't play around but the fields looked greener on the other side of the fence. I only can speak for myself, but when you've got a good wife and home you don't pass it up for .something that's different. Some actors think it's great to be a bachelor. But when you - analyze bachelorhood and break it down you're not missing a thing." Paramount has . promised to make another Alan Ladd out of Richard. When the scripts didn't come around. "I loafed at the beach and not having some work to do didn't help my marriage any." he said. "After sitting around for a year, I know I had to decide whether to be an actor or a bum," he said. "I left Paramount and went back East for six months' to do some live TV shows. Therf I toured with 'Desperate Hours' 6n the stage. You Just can't sit around. You have to keep working." When "Desperate Hours" wound up in a Los Angeles theater, his performance brought him a flood of picture offers. He reconciled with his wife, Tony, and their two children and has settled here again. "She's a great source of encour agement," he said. "Having a good wife at home gives a person se curity and solidarity. Being mar ried doesn't have to hinder you."
