Sweetland said he will file on the Demo cratic ticket for the secretary post in the Mayl8 primary election. Sweetland is pub lisher of the Milwaukie Re view, a weekly newspaper. Bedroom damaged During Fire The bedroom of n home under construction was severely damaged by fire early Saturday afternoon, Klamath Falls Fire Department reported today. The home, located at 2519 Rad cliffe, was being constructed by Ray Aschenbach, contractor, of 2210 Radcliffe. Damage was con; lined to the bedroom, firemen said. The Suburban Fire Department reported that a washing machine motor caught fire at about 8:41 a.m. Monday morning at the resi dence of C. W. Clifford, 3209 Hll yurd. Five Persons Arrested In SF SAN FRANCISCO (UP) Five persons were arrested last night in wnat police said was the crack' up of a ring that fenced -thousands of dollars worth of clothing, furs. Jewelry and other merchandise from some of San Francisco's most exclusive shops. ' Four of those arrested, three women and a man, had links to the underworld. The fifth was schoolteacher. All were charged witn receiving stolen property. The arrests were carried out by the newly designated Chief of Po lice Francis J. Ahem and his aides after weeks of investigation by Dist. Atty. Thomas Lynch. Lynch said the merchandise was stolen from "dozens of stores" In the past few years by two well known shoplifters, whom he did not Identify. However, It was learned that they testified last night before the Grand Jury. One of them was brought here from the women's prison at Corona. According to police, the shop lifters would steal, for example, a dress worth $300, then sell It for $100 or less through a mem ber of the ring, Those arrested were: . A new cub, Gregory Jackson, was initiated during the meeting. Medals and pins were given out and the group was entertained by two skits on pirates, given by June Orem's, Margie Waldrip's and Mrs. W. Kurt's dens. Randall Pope, leader, announced that National Scout Week will be from February 6 to the 12. All scouts are asked to wear their uniforms to school during the week and to church services on Sunday. A window display contest will be held during National Scout Week. The Merrill Scouts are plan ning on entering their display in the window of the Merrill Clothing Store. Judge's Son Receives Position RED BLUFF (UP) Edward J. Allen, 31, son of Siskiyou County Superior Judge James Allen, was appointed yesterday as Judge ol the Red Bluff Judicial District by the Tehama County Board of su pervisors. (UP) Joe Her bert Hoskins. last of three men sought for robbing a Kansas bank operated by the first woman treas urer of the United States, surren dered quietly to the FBI Monday night outside a Dallas tavern. Hoskins, an ex-convlct from Dal las, was not armed. He olferd no resistance when FBI agents closed in on him and a woman companion after they came out of an east side tavern Hoskins was known to fre quent. Still sought today was a red- haired mystery woman believed possibly in the Dallas or Fort Worth area. She was believed to be a friend of Blllv Oene Ross, Dallas hoodlum shot to death dur ing an attempted robbery last Sat urday of the home of Mrs. Georgia Neese Clark Gray in Richland. The woman was seen driving a Cadlllao with Texas plates on it in the area where the robbery took place. Later she called from a fill' ing station In the area to ask about Ross. The woman with Hoskins Identl' fled herself as his wife, and ao' companled htm to the Dallas County Jnll. but left later. The FBI said she was not wanted. A $25,000 bond was recommend ed for Hoskins by the U. S. district attorney at Topeka, Kan. He was to be taken before a U. 8. com missioner today on the bank rob bery complaint. Hoskins, Ross and Louie Dea Young Jr., 28, all were charged with entering the Richland home of Mrs. Gray and forcing her at pistol point to open a vault of her bank. They took $2,000 In the bank robbery Jan. 2. Ross was shot to death on a darkened stairway of the Gray home early last Saturday by An. drew Gray, a former Washington public relations consultant and husband of the former U. 8. treas uror.
