J., Investigators questioned relatives today in a continued effort to learn why William Bauer wiped out six members of his family with a shotgun and then took his own life. Morris County Prosecutor John O. Collins said that, to all intents. the case of the shooting rampagi by the 48-year-old churchgoer is closed on a verdict of homicide and suicide. Hp said, however, that county detectives will question relatives ol nauer's wife in a probe for the motive. Bauer, a civil engineer described by neighbors as a kindly and de voted family man, used a 12' gauge shotgun Friday to slay his wife, two children, his wife's two parents, his own mother, and finally himself. The family had been preparing to go to Florida for a two-week vacation. The victims were Bauer's wife Florence, 36; his children Eliia- beth, 6, and Peter, 20 months; his mother Emma, 84; and his wife's father Unique C. Neuber Sr., 68, and his wife. Mollet To Ask Assembly Approval Of Cabinet List By CARL IIARTMAV PARIS 'if Socialist Premler- deslRnale Guy Mollet asks the Nntional Assembly tomorrow lo approve his government team of Banker, Son Found Shot ROCKFORD, III. tft A promi nent Rockford banker and njs 26-year-old son were found shot to death ye.sterdav. State's Atty. .Robert R. Canfield termed it "an apparent mur der and suicide" but declined to comment further. The bodies of George H. Arnold. 59, vice president of the Illinois National Bank & Trust Co. for 23 years, and his son Robert wore found by the elder Arnold's w.ife Rose. They were four feet apart in the two-car garnpe of the fami ly house a showplnce near the Rockford Country Club. George Arnold had been shot once in the right temp!". The son hud boon shot three times once ii: the back of the head, once be- j hind the ripht ear and once above . the ripht ear. A .22-caliber revolver was found at the feet of the banker. A note which police believe was j written oy tne son and addressed to his mother was found in a pocket of the father's trousers. It read: ' Dear Mom. I'm sorry Jor what happened. Bob." Police declined to speculate on the meaning of the note. Young Arnold, a graduate of Northwestern Naval itnd Military Academy in Lake Geneva. Wis., recently was discharged from the Na vy. Mrs. Arnold, who spent the aft ernoon at a hospital where she was a volunteer worker, found the bodies on her return home. Police said she was too hysterical to be questioned immediately. Some observers predicted Mollet would oe connnncd In olfice bv nearly 400 of the chamber's 596 deputies. A major factor was be lieved to be his appointment of ex-Premier Pierre Mendes-France. Radical party leader, as deputv premier without a departmental portfolio, rather than to the For eign Ministry he wanted. This was counted on to bring Mollet votes from the Catholic MRP (Popular Republican Move ment i. which is Ftlll bitter against Mendes-France for his relusal to push the ill-fated European army plan while he was in office. If approved by the deputies as expected. Mollet plans to be off soon to Algeria for a try at halting the guerrilla revolt there. He also plans to install 79-year-old Gen. Georges Catroujt as resi dent Cabinet minister for Algeria. Previously Algerian affairs have been administered by the Interior Ministry because legally the North African territory is considered an integral part of France. Creation of a special department for Al geria could foreshadow a measure of independence for the area plagued by nationalist strife. Catroux once held a similar A! gerian post in a government head ed by Gen. Charles de Gaulle and authored a decree, never fully Im plemented, making Algerian Mos lems tun French citizens. .French forces, meanwhile, pushed their campaign against the Algerian guerrillas. Officials re ported 50 rebels slain and 50 cap tured over the weekend. French losses were put at four killed and a doen wounded. Flench troops also fought the biggest battle of their four-month campaign against rebellious Riff tribesmen in the mountains of eastern Morocco. The French re ported more than 40 rebels and 18 Foreign Legionnaires were killed in the hand-to-hand engage ment Saturday six miles south of the Spanish Moroccan border.
