E. Knickerbocker, animal division chief for the State De partment of Agriculture at Salem. Slaughter plants in Klamath and Orant counties were the third in the series of three-week-lnspec-tlons set up under the 1955 state law directing this survey. Inspec tions ,'n this area were hi progress from November 14 through Decem ber 3 Inspection figures for the first three areas In which the program operated show 3,155 animals slaughtered, eight antemoriem condemnations; 30 carcasses con demned; 760 parts condemned: and 15,173 pounds of meat food products condemned. These figures breakdown by spe cies like this: Animals slaughtered cattle, 1,667; calves, 230; hogs, 1,174; sheep, 163: and goals, 21. Live animals condemned sheep, 5; cattle 3. Carcasses condemned beef, 8; hog, 3; veal, 1; sheep, 18. Parts condemned livers, 708: heads, 35; hearts, 1; tongues. Id. Meat food products condemned fresh, 1,807 pcunds; frozen, - 13.368 pounds, The overall inspection figures ter 3. In the Klamath - Orant inspec tions, carried on In five plants, 689 animals were slaughtered; they In cluded 314 cattle, 10 calves, 357. swine and 8 sheep. Condemnations included two live cattle, and six carcasses (five beef and one hog); 120 livers,. 11 heads; 1.270 pounds of fresh meat food products and 13 368 pounds of frozen meat food products. The pilot progiam moved from this area into Deschutes. Jeffer son and Wasco counties and Is now operating in Linn County.
