J Home Action Group Formed Home owners, worried about de cline in property values in their neighborhoods due to apathy as older homes are being allowed to slip into slum status, have a chance to slop this great loss. A new non-profit national organ ization called ACTION. American Council to Improve our Neighbor hoods, with headquarters in Radio City, New York 20. New York, will furnish a program (or local communities to help themselves. It is estimated one million homes a year are allowed to deteriorate into slum category. This Is a stag gering loss to the nation's economy, and can be stopped, ACTION lead ers point out. The local ACTION program will help leaders arouse pride In re modeling and salvaging of these deteriorating, homes. Most of these homes are easily remodelled and modernized, for having been frame designed, they can easily be red signed along modern lines. There are ample building materials, such as easy-to-handle Douglas fir fram ing and finish lumber to do these jobs. In many instances, a few thousand dollars spent In remodel ing will Increase the value of the older home two or three times the amount spent. When a group of home owners start remodelling, it is easy to arouse interest in other owners, the ACTION people believe. HOT WATER FOR HEATING NEW HOMES wa s brought In on Division Street by a crew headed by E. E. Storey, Merrill, left. The water, which Is flowing to the surface at a temperature of 198 degrees, will be used to heat several duplexes being built by John Fowler and Fred Hoagland at Division and Oak streets. I. C. The builders are building the duplexes for occupancy by U.S. Air Force personnel and other new residents of Klamath Falls expected to arrive in the city begining this spring. Thus, reports Miss McLaln, wallpaper design that emphasizes this naturalness is found in the widely spaced small patterns as opposed to large dramatic design. "A coin print in greenish turquoise blends beautifully with natural woods and stone," the noted decor ator points out. "This paper may be used in conjunction with anoth er paper presently on the market a replica of the Japanese shoji screen," she suggests. "Wallpaper need not dominate the room in which structural ma terials are exposed, nor need it make a paneled room look noisy, Miss McLain explains. Rather it is used effectively to emphasize points of interest.
