Estes Kefauver, whose 1952 campaign for the Democratic pres idential nomination got its biqRcst arly boost In New Hampshire, wants to battle with Adlni Steven son for that state's support in 1956. There was no Immediate word from Stevenson but one or his sup porters, John Rogers Penn, said he would seek election as a New Hampshire convention dr-legnte pledged to Stevenson whether or not tho 1952 nominee enters the content. Ketauver announced yesterday he w entering the New Hampshire primary and exprcHKed hop "the miow and ice will not deter" Ste venson. Stronger hints crime from friends of Sen. William F. Knowland R Califi, (he Senate minority leader, that he mipht not wait for announc ment of President Eisenhower's political plans to enter some pri maries on his own. The friends said Knowland Is convinced Eisenhower will not run, and reported he has sent directly to Eisenhower his contention that to wnlt until mid-February or later other GOP aspirants cannot alford to get their names on primary ballots. Dr. Paul Dudley White, the Boston heart specialist who exam ined Eisenhower. Saturday, said it would be mid-February before Ei senhower could be sure he is physi cally able to seek a second term if he wants one. Guatemala Vote Results Revealed GUATEMALA W-The National Delnucratlc Movement (MDN t of President Cnlos Castillo Annas announced its victory today in Guatemala's congressional elec tions. The victory announcement was no surprise. All candidates in yes teiday's balloting for the titi seals m Conttress had promised to sup port the anti-Communist leader of the revolution which ousted Presi dent Jnenbo Arben Guzman and his Red-dominated regime 18 months ago. MDN candidates were mostly un opposed except tor entries ol the equally progovernmenl Natioiul Ami-Communist Front In Mime laces. The Omnium. M party was outlawed. If Knowland should Jump into the race, he would be doing what Kefauver did in 1952. Kefauver en tered the New Hampshire primary that year before former President Truman announced whether he would seek another term. Kefauver went, on to defeat Truman, vho'-e name was entered. 10.800 to 15.927. Truman announced later he would not be a candidate. Stevenson and Kefauver already are slated for a head-on battle in the California primary June 5. Keiauver said on a CBS radio-TV show he Is also looking into the situation in Minnesota, where Ste venson will run. Stevenson has announced plans also to enter Florida, Pennsylvania and Illinois races. There are indi cations Kefauver may challenge him in Florida. Knowlund criticized what he de scribed as the administration's 'acfiuicscence" in a pacitage deal under which four Communist coun tries were admitted to the United Nations last week along wtth 12 nou-Communisl nations. He fore saw it as a possible iorerunncr to a similar arrangement next year which might bring Red China into the U.N. He stud in an Interview presi dential aspirants ol both parlies should pledge an American veto of Red Chinese membership. Harold E. Stassen, Eisenhower's disarmament, adviser, returned to Minnesota to urge election of a slate of delegates pledged to re nominate Eisenhower. Joseph 1i. Hanh Jr., hood of the Americans for Democratic Action, said it Eisenhower runs he would get a largo 'sympathy vote.'' He expressed some doubt during a TV interview that Eisenhower could be attacked on his domestic and foreign poK'ies because criticism of him and his policies might np-, pear in bad la.-ile to manv persons.
