Ifl A 42-year-! eld molher was arrested and charged with murder yesterday in the death ol her husband's former wife. Mrs. Hose Alexander was Jailed without bond ulter telling a cor oner's jury she buried the body of Mrs. Barbara Alexander, 21, In the cellar of a Casper home and concealed her death because "it would hurt the children." Ray Whilaker, Natrona County attorney, said the short, heavy-set woman would be arraigned today. The grey-haired mother of two was arrested before the Jury de cided that Barbara Alexander came to her death by a frac tured skull as result of a blow or blows struck by a person or per sons unknown." Hose testified that Barbara's death 'Hustle V GM Tells Dealers WASHINGTON (UP) The Gen eral Motors Corp. has this word for Its dealers who are not doing so well in the present highly com petitive auto market: Get out-and hit the ball. GM officials also started offer ing today a detailed, case-by-case defense to dealers' charges of un fair treatment. The charges were made in previous testimony be fore a Senate Monopoly subcom mittee investigating the giant auto concern. William P. Hufstader,. GM vice president and sales manager, gave the first reply to M. H. Yager, an Albany, N.Y., Pontlac dealer, who last Friday accused GM President Harlow H. Curtice of being an "arrogant dictator." Yager also asserted that GM dealers are subjected to constant factory pressure to sell more and more new cars even if it in volves exaggerated trade-ins, ex tremely easy credit terms, and other unsound business practices. His testimony was similar to that, of other GM dealer witnesses, most of whom had lost their franchises. Hufstader told the subcommittee' that Yager devotes only half his time to his auto business although his new car sales have been de clining for the past two years. Nevertheless, Yager's profits have been averaging $9,000 a month this year, Hufstader said. Hufstader had testified previous ly that complaining dealers should blame themselves for not prepar ing for the time "when customers ceased walking Into their stores clamoring to have their names put on an order blank." 1 Curtice denied that his recent offer to extend the period of the dealer franchise from one to five ( years was "illusory." He said that . the offer-even-applled to Healers who had been warned that their one-year agreements would not be renewed next year unless they stepped up sales. July 18. 1953. was accidental.' Asked why she failed . to report it, she said: 'I was very frightened. It would hurt the children. .They would think the worst of me. They would not believe me. The children, it would break their little hearts. The husband, James, a balding 48-year-old former Casper High School instructor now employed at Worland; Wyo., testified he knew nothing of the Incident until Mon day, when his former wife's body was unearthed in the basement of the East Casper home he has been building. He and Rose were divorced In 1950. After his marriage to Bar bara, Alexander said, Rose came to live with them for about a year. Later, Rose left the home and he said Barbara warned him she also would leave if she found out he ewr visited his former wife. Alexander said that after Barbara disappeared, he assumed she had learned he had been visiting Rose and carried out her threat. "If someone else would make her happier than I did. it was all right with me," he said. "I would lust sit and wait until I heard from her." Rose testified she went to Bar bara's home the day of the death to ask Alexander for money to support their two children. At a side door, Rose said, Bar bara slipped and fell into an en closed pit. A broken banister top pled a stack of bricks and cinder blocks onto the prone woman, kill ing her. Rose related. She testified Alexander called on her the next night to ask her to care for the three children, who were living with Alexander and Barbara. She said Alexander told her Barbara had gone and he had to leave town an business. on juiy 20, Rose said she re turned to Alexander's home and buried Barbara In the unfinished cellar, under a six-inch layer of dirt. The next month, Alexander laid a 4'i-iiicli concrete floor. Rose explained a crude cross found in Barbara's hands as some' thing she had prepared "to add re ligious significance" to the burial, The tomb was unearthed by po lice at midnight Monday. Two of Barbara's children were by a former marriage. Timber Concern Given Contract PORTERVILLE (UP) Ameri can Timber, Inc., of Merced has been awarded a contract to sal vage some 14,300,000 board feet of limber in the Goodmill Unit of the McGee fire area. Supervisor Eldon E. Ball of Sequoia National Forest reported the firm submitted the high bid of $156,000 for the timber and an additional $40,000 to. rehabilitate and replant the area, which was burned over last summer. .
