Maybe The Hot-Wafer Heater Needs Muscles Your water heater may not be able to keep up with the load as you adit new appliances or home use. As U.S. homes become more modern, they put In two or more bathrooms, big washing machines, dishwashers and other appliances that use hot water. One study of home water use showed that 80 per cent of. the water a modern family uses is hot. It learned that many fam ilies frequently find themselves out of hot water. They have to wait until more heats, use cold water or use emergency methods to heat it. Some experts suggest a rule ot thumb. Multiply 25 or 30 gallons a day by the number of people in your family. Then make sure your heater will produce that amount. They also suggest It is wise to expect larger needs Jn luture years. In many cases this will mean an even larger hot-water ca pacity for your home. Heaters last for many years, and changing over to a larger size can be an annoyance. Si r-: - S Jtf ... . 4 , Make Your Own Xmas Candles Here are easy Instructions for making a one-pound Parowax Christmas Candle. Variations of this candle are possible by in creasing the heighth, width, etc. - First, remove the four quarter- bound-sections of Parowax from the carton. Seal two of them to gether by dipping the Hat surface In a shallow pan of melted Paro wax and pressing one on top of the other. Repeat this process with the remaining two blocks. Score one section down the mid dle lengthwise with an ordinary beverage can opener to provide space for a piece of candle wick lng which should be dipped In the melted Parowax and laid in the groove, leaving about I inch at the top of the candle. The wick lng can be bought in a novelty or hardware shop. Dip the flat surface of one of the sections In the melted Paro wax and press on top of the oth er half to put the wick in the center of the candle. Then quick ly turn the entire candle in the melted wax, including the protrud ing end of wick. Now the candle Is ready for dec orating. Melt one-half pound of Parowax and beat with electric or hand beater until it is the consistency of whipped cream. Pat the foamy Parowax on the candle with a spatula or table knife, keeping the candle square. Jx is also sug gested that the frosting be built MAKE YOUR OWN Christmas candles this year with Parowax. The reg ular type of washer takes 12 gal lons per load, an automatic wash er 18 gallons per load. Handwashed dishes require three gallons per meal, a dishwasher seven. gallons a load. Typical use cited by the experts: Two showers, one shave and breakfast dishes use 22 gallons. One load of clothes, two show ers, a shave and breakfast dishes use 34 gallons. One shower, one tub bath, a shave and breakfast dishes use 28 gallons. Washing three loads of clothes in an automatic washer can take up to 60 gallons of hot water in two hours. And there are ofi-n other uses for hot water In the home at the same time. The experts say that, besides bathing, dishes and laundry, there are 130 uses for hot water In a home. There are many types of heat ers. Some manufacturers seek to suoply adequate hot water by sug gesting larger tanks. Others offer faster heating.
