Conductor's Wife Dies In Portland - PORTLAND Ifl Mrs. Boris Sirpo. wife of the conductor o' '.V Portland Little Chamber Sym phony Orchesua. died of cancer Monday at the age of 62. She accompanied her husband and the orchestra on a tour of .Western Europe earlier this year. Mrs. Sirpo was author of numer ous works In Finnish. She came to Portland with her husband shortly after fleeing Viipuri, Finland, when the Rus sians invaded In 1939. Sirpo. who is professor of -music at Lewis and Clark College, col lapsed after his wife's death and was hospitalized. A concert scheduled by the or chestra for Wednesday night was canceled. Wc!f Appears Before Jury PORTLAND (Pi Victor Laur ence Wolf went before a court here Tuesday to determine the dcerob to which he is guilty in the auto bomb slaying of a Portland attor ney. Wolf, a 45-year-old handyman, admitted in court that he wired the bomb which killed Kermit Smith last April. This confession in court is permitted under a sel dom used 90-year-old law and the question now is what penally .shn'.l be assessed. He could be sent to the gas chamber. Wolf soueht to implicate Smith's wife, Marjoric. in the slaying but sfce was acquitted on a first de gree murder chaise. Circuit Judge James W. Coak ley asked whether Abbott's atti tude then appeared to differ from his attitude in 1951, when Shabart removed the upper half of his let! lung. Shabart replied that Abbott was "difficult to manage" when he was a patient in 1951. "In contrast, when I saw him on May 3 and May 13. he appealed to me almost overanxious to enter the hospital," the doctor said. The prosecution also tried to disprove in advance the defense claim that Abbott was too weak to have .killed Stephanie .and carried her 105-pound body up a steep hill to her crude grave. "Is the defendant a respiratory cripple?" Coakley asked. "In my opinion," Shabart said, "he is not.". Shabart said the 1951 operation left Abbott with "roughly 75 pel cent ot his normal lung capacity."
