From Egypt, where beauti ful women knew the arts of se ductive clothing and make-up 6.000 years ago. Cole of California has derived the shapes and colors for a collection of swim fashions that Queen Nefretlrl probably would have given half her jewels to own To the current Interest In Oriental fashions is' added the unique fas cination of Egypt. On Fred Cole'a recent round the world trip the sight that Impressed him most was the treasure of Egyptian Jewels In the Cairo Mu seum. And since Egypt's desert temperature is about the same as Palm Springs or any southern re sort he reasoned that a way of dress suitable to that climate cen turies ago had a Tightness for warm resorts today. Meanwhile, Cole's designer, Margit Fellegi, with her fashion-sensitive radar, was anticipating the incoming trend for the sheath silhouette, for the- asymmetric Une and for the new accent on the bosom. The result Is an Egyptian collection that combines fashion news with the fatal charm of Egyptian sirens. The Egyptian silhouette is Inter preted in a slender sheath swim suit with high-rising "Egyptian Necklace" neckline ... in a swimsult with sinuous draping and an asymmetric line blazoned with metallic Egyptian braid called "Cleopatra" ... in a suit called "The Shpinx" with stripe-trimmed pharoah collars such aa Cheops who built the Oreat Pyramid used to wear . . , and In a style with a terraced bra and front akirt like the step pyramid at Sakkara, called "The Pyramid." Hidden Inside all these suits Is a beauty secret more potent than Egyptian magic. It is Cole's revolutionary new Inside bra, the "HI Fl," made of air conditioned foam rubber. There is also a stunning costume coat, the "Pharoah Coat," with Egyptian headdress hood, deep pockets and turn back cuffs. The fashions are dipped In the exquisite colors of Egyptian wall paintings. Cole used the authentic colors as seen in the marvelous series of color photos made by Unesco on the spot in Egypt tlw Instant the paintiugs were excavat ed and before the delicate frescos could flake off when exposed to the air. Particularly beautiful and distinctly Egyptian are an aqua mirage and a clear light heavenly blue called Cairo Blue. There is also Lotus White, (inspired by the flower found in all Egyptian sculp ture and paintings), Nile Green (green Is slated for terrific fashion importance this season), Desert Oold (a clear strong yellow bril liant as Egyptian sunshine), Sahara Sand (a rich cafe au lalt that Is stunning with tan), and Kohl Black (kohl was used for eye make up by Egyptian beauties and probably was named for an ancestor of Fred Cole 5,000 years agol) ; Fabrics are solid color Lastex and hand-screened or printed cot ton. Egypt was the birthplace of cotton and long-staple Egyptian cotton is still the finest in the world. There are also matching -headdresses to give you. a smart costume look and sultry allure. . In Cole'a Egyptian exploration he uncovered one custom which he promises not to Introduce. Quests at Egyptian parties were given perfumed wax cones to wear on their heads. When the wax melted In the hot Egyptian after noons and dripped down over the wearer they were replaced by fresh cones till the guests resem bled beeswax candles. Cole figures things got a little too sticky for modern comfort. TINY sprigged red roset are scattered over the winter white cotton and Vicara fab ric that styles this Christmas robe.
