The site located near Weed, which was purchased In 19S4 by the county for $2,369 requires widening for a runway, graveling and pav ing, at an estimated cost of 135,194. The strip of land purchased Is one mile long by 600 feet wide and Is not In use at this time. The amount requested of the fed eral government, under provisions of the federal aid airport pro gram, Is f 19,081; the county .Willi bear the remainder, 116,113. Completion of the work would take .two years. Expenditure by the county In 1996 would be ap proximately t6,ooo, and In 1957, $8,000. Provided the government ap proves the request, $2,369 of the purchase price for the land will be rebated to the county. Fifty four per cent of the cost will be borne by the government and 4S per cent by Siskiyou County. The landing strip already has been graded to include an area of about 100 by 5.000 feet. At one end of the runway Is a power line which must be put underground. Donald Coonrod, airport coordi nator, appeared Tuesday before the supervisors and stated that an application must be filed with the government before December 1. If the application for fund Is approved, bids will be -let for the work to be done by independent contractors, coonrod stated.
