OREGON PAGE NINE Cold Winds, Storms Hit East Coast By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS ; The Eastern Seaboard from Vir ginia to Massachusetts was hit yesterday by a string of quick. violent storms that brought gusts up to 110 miles an hour and caused seven deaths. In some areas the storm carried rain, but weather bureau officials said there was no danger' of flood. much to the relief of an area that has already experienced two disas trous floods this season. - The squalls, traveling on the edge of a fast-moving cold front, came from tha west with frighten' ing speed and were gone again in as little as 15 .minutes. But the cold air remained over the area and the forecast for today was cloudy, cooler and windy weather. In some sections residents re ported the storms were like lor' nadoes, with swirling winds that toDDled trees, broke power lines, skimmed roofs off some buildings and crumbled others,, upset air nlanes and swamped boats. A sunny, pleasant dav suddenly darkened and temperatures drooped a degree a minute. . Among the storm victims were 3fi cows whose barn at Ferguson- ville. N. Y., was lifted from -its foundations and crushed flat. A house trailer there was blown over with 73-year-old Mrs. Ethel Ooble inside. She crawled out through a window and- had only minor injuries. Oregon Wheat Storage Said At 40 Per Cent PORTLAND trl The federal Department of Agriculture report ed Monday that about 40 per cent of Oregon's 1955 wheat crop has been placed in storage under the price support loan program. There were (,130,652 bushels of wheat acquired in the program, plus 1. 979,323 bushels of barley and 101,271 bushels offals.
