WEDNESDAY. OCTOBER m 1055 HERALD AND NEWS. KLAMATH FALLS. OREGON George Calls edse ed China For Pi PAGE SEVEN WASHINGTON if Sen. George (D-Gbi said today the United Slates snould require a pledge by Red Cbuia against the use ot force in Asia before agreeing to high level discussion of major Far Eastern problems with the Com munists. George, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, pre viously had put no specific condi tions on his July 24 suggestion for an early meeting between Secre tary ot State Dulles and Foreign 1 Minister Chou En-lai. He said then, during a radio-TV Interview, that such a high-level meeting should bo held within six months. He said In a telephone interview he now supports Dulles' position that any near-summit meeting must await the conclusion of am bassadorial talks under way in Geneva. Dulles told a news conference yesterday Communist China has formally raised the question of a new hifeh-level meeting with the urmea states. . But he said the possibility of I some agreements between Ameri- can and Chinese Communist ' special ambassadors have not been i exhausted. He made it clear he does not want to elevate the talks I until there- are further develop- i merits. Dulles said U. Alexis Johnson, j the U.S. Ambassador had proposed I that the Peiping regime renounce j settling international disputes He i intimated this might open the'wny ! for higher level efforts to ease ' tensions in the Formosa Strait area. . George said he backs this stand. ' "There are some matters before ! the ambassadorial conferees that j ought to be concluded before any ! further steps ara token," he said, i "The Chinese Communists first i should release the American pris- 1 oners they have promised to free ano mey snould give some account ing o( the more than 400 soldiers wTio remain unaccounted for after the Korean War. "tf they will xio these things and make a public pledge to give up the use of force in any settlement of the Formosa issue, then we should be prepared to go ahead with a high level conference." 1: f CAA Officials Probe Thome Plane Crash In Hollywood CHARLES HAHN. "Pjeces of the aircraft along the flight path Indicate it disintegrated in the air,'' Naught said. Disintegration could result from excessive speed or violent hand ling of the plane,' such as stunting or the terrific stress of a sudden pullup at high speed, he said. "In my opinion, it would be in concelvaole Thome would be stunt ing in the prevailing weather, in drizzling, overcast conditions," Naught said.
