Elmer Francis (Trigger) Burke. 37, was held here today for a New York City slaying and a Boston jailbreak alter his capture at a nearby resort. FBI agents seized him at Folly Beach Saturday night. He did no, resist. Authorities in both New York and Boston said they wanted him returned lor trial and sent repre sentatives here. Burke was held in county jail lor a preliminary hear ing Friday In bond of $100,000 on each of two charges. In Boston. Dist. Atty. Garrett H. Byrne said he wants Burke back for trial on a charge of as sault with a dangerous weapon on a prison guard during a break from the Suffolk Counly Jail at Boston a year ago yesterday. In New York, Acting Dist. Atty. Alfred J. Scottl said, "We intend to matte every effort to bring Burke back to this Jurisdiction and face this first-degree murder In dictment" in the slaying July 24, 1952, oC Edward Walsh after an argument In a bar. Two prisoners obtained guard uniforms and helped Burke get away from the Boston jail after he had been arrested June 17, 1954, tor possession of a submachine gun. Officers said they believe the gun was used in the ambusn of Joseph J. (Specs) O'Keefe, once a prime suspect In the $1,219,000 Brink's holdup of 1950. Island Trip Gift Given BONANZA A six-weeks trip to ine Hawaiian Islands was a sur prise poldca wedding anniversary gilt to Dr. and Mrs. Henry Thom as, parents of Reg Thomas of Bo nanza. Dr. Thomas was rector of St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Klam ath Falls and helped establish St. Barnabas Church in Lansell Val ley, becoming its first minister. Dr. and Mrs. Thomas moved to California in 1933 and he has been rector of St. Clements Episcopal Church at Berkeley since January of that year. They sailed on the Lurline on August 17 to start their six weeks trip which Is the pift of mem bers of his' con? ret? at ion. It is also in recognition of the 40th anniver sary of his ordination as a dea con of the church. Their wedding nnniversary falls on February 6, 1956, but the trip was arranged at the earlier date In 1 order that they may attend the general convention of the Episco pal Church of the United States which is beinjr held for the first time in Honolulu. The convention opens September 14. They will re turn to Berkeley October. 1. Dr. and Mrs. Thomas were both born in England and were mar ried in Liverpool. He was a school teacher before studying for the ministry. He also served with the British army in India for two vears.
