here in Colorado.
Of course, the fact he's presi
dent makes It someUilng a good
deal less than an all-out vocation.
Work goes along with a chief ex
ecutive wherever, he moves.
But at the end of two weeks ol
this fourth summer visit in a row
to this state It's obvious once
again how much Elsenhower loves
this part of the country and
how the chango makes a new man

At the home of his mother-in-law
Mrs. John S. Doud. there Is
a casualncss about living that the
Eisenhowers rensn.
Elsenhower, for example, turns
up at his Lowry Air Force Base
office each morning In comfort
able sports clothes often without
ii tie. Aides keep his engagements
to a minimum, he cleans up his
work, then usually hies off to the
golf course.
The public appearances of the
President and his wife out here
are mighty few. About the only
regular one Is at church" Sunday
morning.
Yesterday they went to the
Corona Presbyterian Church two
blocks from the Doud residence.
Far in the front of the church,
they were unaware of an incident
In the rear which caused Secret
Service agents to take routine pre
cautions Ipr their safety.
A sobbing, myslerlous womnn In
black with closely shurn hair was
the reason. Unidentified, she knelt
on the floor behind the last row of
pews with tears streaming down
her checks.
An usher escorted her to a near
by room and two Secret Service
men took up a watch. But she was
not detained and she caused no
trouble.

FBI Seizes

CHARLESTON, S.C. If! Elmer
Francis (Trigger) Burke. 37, was
held here today for a New York
City slaying and a Boston jailbreak
alter his capture at a nearby
resort.
FBI agents seized him at Folly
Beach Saturday night. He did no,
resist.
Authorities in both New York
and Boston said they wanted him
returned lor trial and sent repre
sentatives here. Burke was held in
county jail lor a preliminary hear
ing Friday In bond of $100,000 on
each of two charges.
In Boston. Dist. Atty. Garrett
H. Byrne said he wants Burke
back for trial on a charge of as
sault with a dangerous weapon on
a prison guard during a break
from the Suffolk Counly Jail at
Boston a year ago yesterday.
In New York, Acting Dist. Atty.
Alfred J. Scottl said, "We intend
to matte every effort to bring
Burke back to this Jurisdiction and
face this first-degree murder In
dictment" in the slaying July 24,
1952, oC Edward Walsh after an
argument In a bar.
Two prisoners obtained guard
uniforms and helped Burke get
away from the Boston jail after
he had been arrested June 17, 1954,
tor possession of a submachine
gun. Officers said they believe the
gun was used in the ambusn of
Joseph J. (Specs) O'Keefe, once a
prime suspect In the $1,219,000
Brink's holdup of 1950. Boston po
lice theorized that Burke had been
sent from New York to kill
O'Keefe, who was wounded but
recovered.
O'Keefe Is now held In jail In
Springfield, Mass., for parole vio

Gift Given
BONANZA A six-weeks trip
to ine Hawaiian Islands was a sur
prise poldca wedding anniversary
gilt to Dr. and Mrs. Henry Thom
as, parents of Reg Thomas of Bo
nanza. Dr. Thomas was rector of St.
Pauls Episcopal Church in Klam
ath Falls and helped establish St.
Barnabas Church in Lansell Val
ley, becoming its first minister.
Dr. and Mrs. Thomas moved to
California in 1933 and he has been
rector of St. Clements Episcopal
Church at Berkeley since January
of that year.
They sailed on the Lurline on
August 17 to start their six weeks
trip which Is the pift of mem
bers of his' con? ret? at ion. It is also
in recognition of the 40th anniver
sary of his ordination as a dea
con of the church.
Their wedding nnniversary falls
on February 6, 1956, but the trip
was arranged at the earlier date In 1
order that they may attend the
general convention of the Episco
pal Church of the United States
which is beinjr held for the first
time in Honolulu. The convention
opens September 14. They will re
turn to Berkeley October. 1.
Dr. and Mrs. Thomas were both
born in England and were mar
ried in Liverpool. He was a school
teacher before studying for the
ministry. He also served with the
British army in India for two
vears.

tion at Bonanza each year and
