Under the old regulations such persons could receive only tem porary renewaole appoints of up to one year. The commission said the change was made to conform to congres sional action lilting maximum age restrictions on federal appoint ments for this fiscal year, which ends June 30, 1U56. A commission spokesman said the change does not afiect the requirement for mandatory retire ment at age 70 of any federal employe who has served at least IS years, unless he is cominuea n service by a civil service or presidential order. Mt Air man Daniel Schmidt's lawyer says Schmidt will file "not later than Monday ior a divorce from the wlie who married arain while he was a prisoner of the Communist Chinese. Atty. Howard P. Welch said he plans to start divorce proceedings for Schmidt "perhaps this week end , . . Not later than Monday." Daniel, 23, was one of 11 Amer ican fliers released recently by the Communists. He returned home last week to learn his 20-year.old H'ife Una had married loering worker Alford Fine, in the belief. she said, that Schmidt had died In Korea. State Forester George Spaur. who announced the figures, said it was the second largest cut in the state history. It was exceeded only by the 9.8 billion board feet cut in 1952. For 17 straight years, Oregon has maintained the national lead ership. Production in 1954 was 213 mil lion feet more than in 1953. Douglas County led all Oregon counties last year by producing 1,598,258,000 board feet. Other counties in the top 10: Line, 1,257,565.000: Jackson, 669,- 068,000; COOS, 603.699,000; Linn 539,117,000; Lincoln. 404.348,000; Currv 395.254.000; Tillamook. 389. 907,000; Clackamas, 376,177.000; Josephine, 282,964,000.
