OREGON PAGE NINE Grand National Livestock Show Judges Named Judges for the Cow Palace's animal Grand National Livestock Exposition were announced this week by President Porter Sesnon. The 1955 "Show of Champions" will be held In San Francisco's Cow Palace October 23 through November 6. This year's 15 arena show performances, held in con nection with the national livestock exposition, features the great in ternational attraction, the "Riders of the Andes," the crack mounted equestrian team and individual acts of the Chilean army. Sharing the arena spotlight will be cham pionship rodeo and a full dl'lslon horse show and the National Cutting Horse championship finals. The livestock judges who will decide the awarding of $88,235 in premium money for beef cat tle, dairy and dual purpose cat tle, sheep and swine come from seven states, mostly of the mid west. AU are recognized and dis tinguished to their fields. Presi dent Sesnon said. The judges are: H. A. Fitihugh, manager, Straus Medina Ranch, San Antonio, Texas: individual fat cattle and National Hereford Show cattle. J. B. McCorkle, Smithville. Mis souri; Aberdeen-Angus breeding cattle. Robert A. Long. University of Kentucky, Lexington; Shorthorn breeding cattle. The Hereford Sale Cattle in pens of three bulls and heifers, will he judged by Harry Parker, Diamond Ranch, San Luis Obispo; Carl L. Garrison, B. F. Porter Estate, San Francisco; and Dr. Robert Root, Patterson Land & Cattle Co., Liv ermore. Carloads and pens of fat cattle will be placed by Robert Haines, Armour te Co., South San Fran cisco, and Harvey McDougal, Col linsville. Carloads and pens of feeder cat tle are to be judged by Dean Vard Shepard, California State Poly technic College, San Luis Obispo; Harvey McDougal and Don Flour noy, Flournoy Bros. Ranches, Like ly. California. In the Dairy Cattle Division. II. R. Searles of University Farm, St. Paul. Minn., will Judge Ayr- shires, Brown Swiss and Jerseys. .1. P. Eves of Chicago. Illinois, is to judffe the Guernseys. Holstein- Friesians and the dual purpose Milking Shorthorns. Breeding Sheep and fat lambs will be classified by Prof. J. C. Miller, Texas A & M College, and Godfrey Priddy of Dun Movin Ranch, Dixon. Calif. The carload and truckload sections of fat lambs will be judged by Lyman Miller of James Allan : Sons. San Fran cisco; and Robert E. Lee of Swift & Company, South San Francisco. In ihe swine division, breeding hogs, fat hogs and the cut-out car cass class will be judged by Wil bcr Plager of Des Moines. Iowa. Feeder pigs will be placed by J. I. THORN TON, Salem, is general chair man of a state-wide fund raising drive sponsored by the Democratic Women of Oregon. She has asked Mrs. Dora Goddard, 424 Ml. Whit ney Street, to name a local committee to plan and oper ate Klamath County's part of the program. Mrs. Goddard is vice-chairman of the Coun ty Democratic central committee. Sunday Fire Rips Through Montague Apartment House MONTAOUE One of the worst fires in local history completely destroyed the Kutzkey apartment house Sunday morning. Damage as estimated at $30,000. There was partial insurance coverage. The Kutzkey apartments, Ihrte-slory structure, was once one of the show places of the town. It was built as a private residence 111 1901 and since had been remodeled into four apart ments. Apparently the fire started In en upstairs, roar apartment rent ed to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Brown who ucie out of town for the weekend. The tennant occuovinx the upstairs front apartment, Clar ence Estes, broke open the door nnd attempted to extinguish the blaze with a garden hose. Estes ana his wife tailed to save any oi their belongings exceut a sew ing machine and vacuum cleaner. He Is an employe of the Civil Aeronautics Administration at the Siskiyou County airport near Montague. Mr. and Mrs.. Ken Cavin and their four children, occupants ot the lower front apartment, lost all of their belongings except the clothes they were wearing. Mrs. Rosetta, Kutskey, owner of TRAP TAIPEI. An ularm was turned in to (he fire department at 1:30 a.m., but the fire was burning out of control when equipment arrived. Ihe Mon tague tire department was ham pered by lack of equipment be cause one of the trucks was being repaired. Help was secured from the State Division of Forestry nnd the Yrcka Fire Department. The fire was still burning at 4 a.m. Sunday. Cause of the tire was unde termined, although Kates said he noticed that the heaviest tmoke was concentrated near a refrig erator in an alcove when he broke into the rear apartment. Mrs. Kutzkey said she had recently had the building rewired and doubted if faulty wiring could have bees the cause.
