OREGON PAGE FIVE STEP-IN STYLE Forest Service Unable To Grant XmasTree Permits Commercial buyers of Christmas trees found them to be a short item in Oregon this year, accord ing to R. L. Cooper, district ran ger, U. S. Forest Service. No applications (or commercial cutting were granted (or the Klam ath district, although the office, had more than 80 applications, he said. "We were unable to sipply the commercial cutters this year." Cooper stated, "because we have been cut over in the past (ew years. The Forest Service is primarily in terested in growing timber and keeping each area fully stocked. While we have a good many areas that are overstocked, Christmas tree speculators don't want to cut from an over-stocked area where the trees grow so close together that they are not perfectly formed" When commercial cutting is per mitted in the Klamath district, life Forest Service advertises bids in September so the trees can be cut in October and November.
