Pelping Radio said. ted, however, the strike cost the stores between 25 and 40- per cent oi their normal gross business.' The teamsters struck a year ago today. The main issues were whether the union or the stores should determine when helpers were needed on trucks and when the stores could use parcel post for deliveries. The union had those ngnts under the old contract. AGREEMENT The agreement gives the stores the power to decide when to as sign helpers. As for use of parcel post, the stores agreed to use this form of delivery only When all drivers are working. im teamsters' strike was quick ly joined by other APL unions. Union spokesmen say 2200 remain on strike today. But, as they have since the strike started, the stores Kaufmann's. Home's. Gimbel's, Frank & Seder and Rosenbaum's continue operating. Those work ing are either members of CIO unions or do not belong to any union. A spokesman said the teamsters union will remain awav from thp job until the other AFL unions have settled their walkouts. A union spokesman said the teamsiers will receive a 5-cent an hour pay boost the day they re pot v oacs ana another 3 1-3 cents an hour, effective Feb. 14, 1955. Drivers received S2.12 n hnnr nri helpers about S1.90 an hpur under NEW BENEFITS The contract provides for waae reopenings in 1956 and 1957. In addition, it provides Improved wel- lare ana pension benefits. Three week vacations will be given em ployes with 15 years service, in stead of 20 years as in the past. Samuel R. Robb, chief negotiator for the stores, says he has not arranged for- meetings with the other unions, but he added he ex pected to hear from them soon. There was no comment from the unions. i Thomas L. Fagan. president of the teamsters local, said he is not entirely satisfied with the terms of the new contract, declaring: "Some of the provisions mav work to the detriment of our mern- oersnip, out I am hopeful that the good faiih developed in the settle ment of this contract may over come these problems." STRIKE UNAPPROVED The teamsters' strike was not an. proved by the union's International president, Dave Beck. Beck re fused to intervene, saving both sides rejected his offer to act as arbitrator. As news of the settlement ann.ri hundreds of persons sought news papers giving details. I hone the whole thing Is settled soon." miring the strike, several store windows were broken, the homes of a number of store officials were paint-bombed, and two nlckets were convicted of aggravated as sault and battery for the beating oi a store customer. Demos Plan Ike's Farm Law Repeal WASHINGTON Wl Sen. Mon- roney (D-Okla) predicted today the No. l objective of Democrats in the 84th Congress will be to re peal President Elsenhower's flex ible farm support program and re store rigid, high-level farm price props.. Monroney said in an interview he thinks results of the congres sional elections which gave Demo crats control of the new Congress were Influenced greatly by the threat of reduced price supports under the Elsenhower program. "I don't think the full weight of the new program, was entirely felt in this month's elections," Mon roney said. "The threat of support drops was enough to help elect Democratic senators In Michigan, Illinois, Minnesota, Wyoming and Montana and to reelect a Repub lican who was for 90 per cent parity In South Dakota. "After the flexible parity pro gram goes into effect Jan. 1, the support reductions are going to be felt In a widespread area." The Oklahoma senator noted that a new formula for parity a price standard said by law to give farmers a fair return in terms of things they buy will go into ef fect, aa well as the new authority for the secretary of agriculture to lower or raise percentage pay ments. The new parity formula. scheduled to start taking effect in 1950, would lower the support level somewhat further. Secretary of Agriculture' Benson has contended that the election results showed no repudiation of the President's flexible parity pro gram, citing among other instan ces the election of a Republican senator in Iowa, Thomas E. Mar tin, in place of Democratic Sen. Gillette. FAST FINE SERVICE i Southbound Molnliners Uavt at 5:15 P. M. SAN FRANCISCO . 3 hrs. IOS ANOELIS . S1, hrs. N.rthbouiM' Molnllntu Uave at 10:45 A. M.
