Sixth Street 1544 Etna Fort Klamath Boy Injured By Automobile A tiny "Trick or Treater," 3-year-old Ricky Lee Bartlett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bartlett, 3638 Diamond Street, In Stewart-Lennox addition, escaped with 'only facial cuts and bruises when he was knocked to the pavement In front of Griggs Grocery, on the Ashland Highway Saturday evening, shortly before 8 p.m. Emmett Melvin Baker, Weyer haeuser, operator of the car told Oregon State Police the little boy ran directly in front of his car. His statement was verified by two brothers of Rickys who had pre ceded the three-year-old across the highway. The Injured lad was taken to the Klamath Valley Hospital by Kaler's Ambulance Service where he was given medical attention and re leased. The three brothers were trick or treating In the neighborhood and started across the highway. When the older brothers reached the other side they looked back and discovered little Ricky Just start ing across as the Baker car ap proached. ' The older brothers told officers they shouted to the lad to go back but he apparently misunderstood and ran directly Into the path of the car. Baker was absolved of blame in the accident. BODIES ENTRAQUE, Italy U Twenty Italian Alpine troopers left Mon day to Join American and Italian teams trying to recover bodies of 21 men killed in the crash of a "O. S. Air Force plane near this mountain hamlet on the French Italian border. Better Schools Meeting Planned A Better Schools Conference Is scheduled for November 6 from to 4:30 p.m. at the Lincoln School at Mcdlord. . This Is a regional conference, sponsored by the department of classroom teachers of the Oregon Education Association, and will in clude delegates from Jackson, Jo sephine, Lake, Klamath and Doug las counties. . Purpose of the conference Is to foster a better understanding of public education as It affects teachers, administrators, a 0 h o 0 1 board members and lay people. A full program is designed around the theme. "Are We In terpretlng Public Education?" Attend Conference Mrs. Dor othy Ezell, president of Klamath Falls Classroom Teachers Associ ation, teacher at Fremont Junior High School, attended the eighth annual fall conference of class room teachers in Portland, Octo ber 22 and 23. Also attending from the local schools was Mrs. Carol Whetstone, secretary of the asso ciation and teacher at Pelican School. From Portland Mr. and Mrs. Horace (Red) Hurd were called to Klamath Falls by the illness of Mrs. Hurd's father, Murray Dick inson. Postponement Shasta View Home Ec Club will meet Wednes day, November 3, at 8 p.m., at the home of Mrs. Lois Lewis, 2532 Shasta Way for Us regular meet ing. There will be election of offi cers. The award was given Air Science IV cadets for having demonstrated high moral character, leadership qualities, aptitutde for service in the air force and completed Air Science III with an academic standing among the upper third of the class. He Is majoring in arch itecture at the University of Ore gon. . Camp Pendleton Marine Pfc. Gerald D. Durant, 3011 Boardman Street, was scheduled to sail the latter part of October from San Diego for duty in the Far East. Mrs. John Chepin and chil dren of Eugene are home visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wes Harsey, 4525 Bisbee, while John is in New York building a swimming pool for John D. Rockefeller. She spent the weekend here visit ing her parents. Ray Bell son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bell. 1935 Portland, spent the weekend with his parents. He is attending the University of Oregon at Eugene, He drove back Sunday afternoon.
