Hollywood Roundup Shows Busy Time In Film Capital By BOB THOMAS HOLLYWOOD W) Notes and comment on the Hollywood scene: Another busy news week in the filiritown. What can happen next? Lucille and Desi had just re turned from New York, where they Mexico Holds Guatemala Red MEXICO CITY 11 Mexican offi cials must shortly answer a knotty question: is the killing of rebel sympathisers during a civil war crime or politics? The, case arises because Guate mala's present antl - Communist government has asked the extra dition of Jaime Rosenberg. He is accused of the killings while chief of police of the former Communist-dominated government. This regime was overthrown after 10 days of civil war. ' Under International law and the extradition treaty with Guatemala he can be extradited for "common crimes" but not for political ac tivity. It is up to Mexico to decide Whether the killings were political or were plain murder. Rosenberg Is under arrest on the . extradition request. Whether he will be freed and allowed lo live in Mexico depenos partly on the amount of pressure left-wing elements can bring to bear on the Mexican Government. The case will probably be decided by the courts. The left-wingers are de fending Rosenberg on the grounds that the killings Rosenberg him self denies responsibility for them were political actions. They in voke Mexico's traditional respect for Its policy of asylum for politi cal refugees. British Plan To Question Reds UNITED NATIONS, N.Y. IP) Britain's top delegate to the U.N. General Assembly prepared a list of searching questions today to test the sincerity of new Russian dis armament proposals which appear to meet some Western demands. The British delegntion chief, Minister of State Selwyn , Lloyd, led off the speaking list as the Assembly's 60-nation main Politi cal Committee launched Its dis armament debate. The debate, expected to continue for about two weeks, lists a British-French compromise plan ac cepted in principle last June by the United States with a similar proposal offered the U.N, 10 days ago by Russia's Andrei Y. Vishin sky. She was never more nervous about a show; she told me as soon as it was over she ran to her dressing room. I hope the Lanza fiajco will prompt the networks to shy away from pre-recording and other pho ny devices. Mouthing to records is okay In movies, where perfection can be achieved by retakes. But no TV singer can completely carry off the illusion of singing when ie isn't. TV's greatest asset is still its spontaneity. Nothing should be al lowed to detract from it. Liberace says Uiat. after the "A Star is Born" premiere, he told studio boss J. L. Warner: "All I want is a picture as good as that one." Warner replied the Liberace picture will be even greater. Nazo Alanir. 39. had been ac cused as part of whits the state called a plot to kill Jacob 8. Floyd Sr. of Alice, chief rival of Duval County political boss George B. Parr. The gunman got Floyd's son instead, the state said. A Jury yesterday found Alaniz, of Duval County, innocent on a charge of accomplice to murder after a week-long trial here on a venue change. Jacob S. Floyd Jr., 21, Univer sity of Texas student, was stot by hidden gunman at the rear of the Floyd home "Oie night of Sept. 1992. At that moment, his father and Alaniz were meeting at an Alice drive-in. Floyd Sr. said the meeting fol lowed an urgent phone call by Al aniz in which the latter told Floyd to come by taxi, not his car. The state claimed the trigger- man was Alfredo Cervantes, a Mex ican national who has never been arrested or indicted. The state charged that Alaniz and Mario (EI Turkol Sapet, San Anionio bar owner and former Du val County deputy sheriff, had plot ted to have the elder Floyd killed. It said Alaniz was to lure Floyd Sr. to his garage with a telephone call but "lost his guts" at the last minute and called hint to the se cret meeting to warn him. Thn Kniinnal Council of the pow erful Socialist party, which holds 105 seats in the 627-member As sembly, scheduled a meeting to night to set the faction's policy on the nine-power proposals. The National Committee or an nthnr. maior assembly group, the Popular Republican Movement (MRP), disapproved the London Records yesterday but left their Deputies' Committee a final deci sion on how the 88 Assembly mem hem from the nartv should vote. The MRP. whose leaders include former Foreign Ministers Robert Schuman and Georges Bldauii, had led the unsuccessful fight for Assembly approval of the Euro pean Defense Community (EDO). The party contend? that the Lon don proposals 0.0 not m enough of the international con trol of German rearmament which EDC would have provided. The Socialist council who had backed EDC and expelled three top leaders from the party who voted against that treaty. A 50-50 split in the party's deputies on the EDC vote was one of the factors in its rejection in August. Mendes-France apparently anti cipates a sizable backing from the Socialists and MRP, no matter what their party commands de cide. The Premier Is certain of sol id opposition from the Assembly's 100 Communists and fellow travel ers. Mendes-France voiced his con fident expectations yesterday in a speech at Pont Saint-Pierre, in his native Normandy.
