Boundary Stays 'Same' ROME W Italy and Yugoslavia formally settled their bitter nine. year dispute over the Trieste Fre Territory Tuesday and agreed on Its division between them. The division virtually coincides with the occupation boundaries es tablished in 1945, with Italy getting the key Adriatic port of Trieste and Yugoslavia retaining the zone the has occupied since World War II. ' The settlement, signed In Lon don at noon Tuesday, and an nounced simultaneously In Rome and Belgrade, is expected to make possible the closing of the last gap in the Western defense line across Southeastern Europe. Although both Italy and Yugoslavia are strongly anti-Russian, they had re fused te cooperate militarily In the past because of their rivalry over Trieste. The next step may be Inclusion of Italy In the Balkan anti-aggression alliance which Yugoslavia, Greece and Turkey signed In August. Students from Chiloquin, Bly, Bonanza, Merrill, Malln and Henley high schools will compete. The two winners of Fri day's program will' compete with the two Lake County winners the evening of October 15 at Bly High School. Frizes will be awnrded the first and second place winners. The reds are against it because Moscow Is Under the agreement: 1. The Port of Trieste and the rest of zone A, except for a small strip on the southern border near Lazzarctto, go to Italy. The zone has been under British-American military occupation since World War II. 2. Zone B, along with the small Lazzaretto strip, becomes Yugo slav. The zone had been under Yugoslav control since Marshal Tito's partisans swarmed In on May 1, 1945. 3. The 3,000 Italians In the Laz zaretto strip can return to Italian controlled territory and can be compensated for their holdings if they desire. Some already have be gun moving. 4. Yugoslavia will hive full ac cess to the port of Trieste. 6. Minority rights are guaranteed for both Italians in Yugoslav terri tory and Yugoslavs In Italian ter ritory. 6. The 3,000 American and nearly 2,000 British troops in zone A will be withdrawn in stages over the next three weeks. 7. The United States and Britain in a supplementary statement an nounced they consider the settle ment as final. Neither Italy nor Yugoslavia officially waived its claim to that portion of the terri tory assigned the other. Ellingson, regional represen tative for Girl Scouts in Klamath Falls, Girls from all parts of the world who qualify are chosen to visit the chalet. Girl Scout Lodge Visited High In the Swiss Alps near the town of Adelboden, nestles a beau tiful lodge operated by and for Olrl Scouts and Olrl Guides of all nationalities. International friend ship has always been a goal of the Girl Scouts, and Our Chalet, as It has been named, gathers rep resentatives from all countries to its summer encampment. Skiing is close by, and the beautiful sur rounding meadows and high moun tains send its visitors home in spired. Visitor to Our Chalet In May was Mrs. R. P. Ellingson, regional rep resentative for Girl Scouts in Klam ath Falls. She states that the lodge was a gift to the international or ganization by Mrs. James J. Stor- row of Boston in 1932, and that Its creed is "Each race, each creed. each nation, beneath this roof arc one." All Girl Scouts dream of visit ing it some day, and travel by sea. rail and bus to partake with girls of all countries and tongues of Its outdoor activities and heart-warming friendship. Visitors other than scouts may stay at the chalet, but they must have an official Introduction and make reservations in advance. Wife Tells Of Brutal Whippings By Husband, Says She Chained To Bed FORT SCOTT, Kan. lift A 28-year-old mother told authorities yesterday her husband whipped her with sticks, gun butts and a rubber hose and chained her In bed with him at night. Mrs. Doris Blackmore was hos pitalized in serious condition. She is the mother of five children ranging In age from 2 to 8. Her 33-ycar-old husband Cecil pleaded innocent at his arraign ment to charges of assault with intent to do bodily harm. He was held in county jail after failing to just $5,000 bond. In a signed statement, Mrs. Blackmore .said the beatings took place over . a two-month period. "sometimes twice a day." She said her husband twice broke gun stocks in beating her over the head and shoulders. Undersheriff Claude Emrick said Blackmore orally admitted beating his Wife but denied breaking the gunstocks on her. The officer quoted Blackmore, a farmer, ar saying he was jealous of his wife but did not explain why. other investigators reported they found no support for such a motive.
