OREGON PAGE TWENTY-ONE THIS LUSCIOUS AND ELEGANT DESSERT combines the smooth flavors of your favorite whipped cream filling with the delicate taste of Betty Crocker's new Angel Food Cake Mix. It's a dressy dessert but it is easy to fix and your guests will say it tastes even better than it looks. Photo and recipe comes from the Betty Crocker Kitchen. Angel Food Delight Inside the ring of cake is hidden a fluffy filling of strawberries, pineapple and whipped cream. The outside is covered with whipped cream frosting over which toasted almonds have been scattered. ONE . COLOR LOOK The one-color look from toe to top this fall brings a change In color of stockings. New hosiery shades include tones of neutrals such as gray and brown as welt as real colors like red. blue, green. Ttiis season there are tweedy mesh stockings to give elegance to town dresses in' tweed with a dressy character that may even take fur trim on the tweed fabric. These stockings may reflect the tonality of the tweed. Iridescent hose may reflect a cocktail dress color. In the same way the brocade evening coat or suit to be worn with the least amount of shoe is a partner for the stocking with the barest look and no seam. Make the Angel Food Cake ac cording to directions on Angel Food Cake Mix package. Place cooled cake upside down on waxed paper. Slice top from cake about one inch down. Lay it aside. Cut down into cake one inch from out er edge, and one inch from hole, leaving walls of cake one inch thick and a one-inch base at bot tom. Remove center with a spoon, being careful to leave a "wall" of cake at bottom one inch thick. Fill cavity with fruit cream filling, replace top and frost. FRUIT CREAM FILLING Make frosting by whipping 3 cups of whipping cream and add ing 9 tablespoons confectioners' sugar and a few drops of red food coloring. For the filling, take Vi of frost ing mixture and add s cups crushed pineapple, 1 cup fresh strawberries and 6 marshmallows cut tip. Place filling in cake cavi ty. Replace top of cake and cover top and sides with remaining whipped cream. Decorate with split toasted almonds If desired Chill 4 to 8 hours. Serves 12 to 16 BOX LUNCH Cupcakes make a good dessert for school lunches. Make them in small cups and cover with pretty frosting. For added Interest, faces can be drawn on the tops with chocolate icing on top of white lrosting. with the new packaged mixer they can be whipped up in a jiny. ... Dogs-ln-A-Blanket Put 1 cup uncooked white rice, 1 teaspoon salt and 3 cups ot water in a 3-quart saucepan. Bring to a vigorous boil over high heat. Turn the heat as low as possible. Cover and cook over this lew heat for 14 minutes. Remove the sauce pan from the heat but leave the lid on for another 10 minutes. Then add 2 tablespoons finely chopped green pepper, 1 teaspoon prepared mustard, teaspoon oiacic pepper and stir la cup grated sharp cheese. Split ten frankfurters lengtn wbe,almost through to the oppo site side. Spoon a generous amount of the rice and cheese lining over the entire length of each frank furter. Wrap two slices of bacon around each filled i rankiurter so that all of the filling is covered by Uie bacon. Hold the bacon in place with three tooth picks. Chill until ready to cook. Place the stuffed frankfurters on a shallow pan and broil in the broiler of an oven set at 450 de grees. Broil for 15 to 20 minutes, turning so the bacon will cook on all sides. Do not place too close to the beat or cook quickly be cause the fillmgi must have time to heat through." This recipe makes 10 servings of one to a person.
