Word has been received of the birth of a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. . Kelly Ferris, Eugene, on Aug.ust 1. The little girl weighed eight pounds. She has been named Shannon Leigh. Leigh is a family name on the maternal side of the family. Mr. and Mrs. Ferris have a second daughter, Shelley Lynden. Paternal grand parents are Mr. and Mrs. Carl Klamath Falls. Ruby Alloway of Klamath Falls Is one of 71 candidates for a master of arts degree with a major in English at the Univer sity of South Dakota summer ses sion commencement on August 13. Time Chanced The radio for um over KFJI, sponsored by the Pomona Grange, will be heard to- Nursing Home Show Presented Residents of the Klamath Coun ty Nursing Home, members of the staff and invited guests were en tertained Tuesday night with a pro gram of instrumental music, vocal numbers, dances, and humor by the O'Hagan's, vaudeville enter tainers, now appearing at Fort Klamath and by the Rythmates. The -Rythmates is a newly or ganised musical group of young people, including Diane O'Hagan, Bill Salt and Gene St. John of Klamath Falls. Bill Is the pianist, Gene plays the electric steel gui tar and Diane sings and dances. Mr. and Mrs. O'HagMi. who have been in show business for 50 years, recently returned from Ha waii and Alaska where they played for American service men. Their appearancse at the nursing home was without charge. U. S. Ambassador To Portugal Quits WASHINGTON I The resig nation of M. Robert Guggenheim as ambassador to Portugal has re vived speculation that he may be succeeded there by Secretary of the Army Stevens. I The White House Tuesday made public an exchange of corres pondence in which Guggenheim ten dered his resignation "for personal reasons and because of the factor of health" and Eisenhower accept ed the resignation with "earnest wishes for your full and speedy return to health and vigor." tension unit will hold a summer meeting at Moore Park, Friday, August 13. Leo Huls, Klamath Falls contrac tor was low bidder on a larger ftptlc tank for Pelican School, first move in a modernization program. The bid was for $4916. Work will start at once. Mrs. Clara Moore, newly elected to the board of district No. 1, was installed. Three resignations from the teaching staff, two from the ele mentary; one from high school were accepted. Calvin Bonney, 7th grade teacher at Mills has accept ed a teaching - coaching assign ment at Salem Junior High School. Mrs. Vivian Siplen, 3d grade teach er at Mills, expects to leave with her husband, Roy T. Sipien, civil engineer with the Bureau of Recla mation for a California post, prob ably in Santa Barbara. George Keough, who has taught English and Spanish m the high school has accepted a position as instructor In school education at the University of Seattle. James Dermody, graduate of the Universityof Washington was giv en a contract to teach speech and social studies in the high school. Announcement of the purchase of a Superior Superllner school bus was made. ' C' C. Carlson, principal of -the high school, showed samples of band uniforms and the board will continue the study for future pur chase of complete new outfits for the band members. The high school board also ap proved buying 12 adjustable type writer tables. Barley Growers Meeting Planned A barley growers meeting at 7:30 p.m. (PST) Thursday, Aug ust, 12, at the Recreation Hall in Merrill, scheduled Jointly by Klamath and Tulelake agricultur al agents will consider the mar ket outlook for the Basin's Hann chen crop. Speakers -scheduled include George Alcorn, extension econo mist, University of California; Ray Teal marketing specialist from Oregon State College and Oime Kellet, Great Western Malt ing Company, Vancouver. The evening meeting Thursday follows an afternoon grading school to be conducted by Bert Whitlock and personnel from the Portland grain inspection office.
