Ufi A pen that wouldn't write set off a bizarre chain of circumstances here yes terday that led to a shooting spree, a police chase and the death by drowning of an Air Force private. Police said Pfc. Melvin L. Ger bitz and Pvt. Augustine Smith, both of Ft. Bragg, N.C., were in a local restaurant when one of the two it hadn't been determined which one became angry be cause his fountain pen wouldn't write. He handed the pen to his com panion, told him to hold it at arm's length, pulled out a pistol and shot the pen to bits. Hie restaurant owner called po lice. The airmen hopped in a car and sped away. Police gave chase. At a bridge across the Dan Riv er near town, the airmen's car smashed into an embankment. The two crawled out of the car and tried to swim the river. Boy Kidnapped Accidentally BETHLEHEM, Pa. I Four-year-old Bruce Parker was safe at home today after an accidental kidnap experience that left him a little hungry and thirsty but other wise unharmed. The youngster was found Satur day, still in the car which had been stolen from in iront of a supermarket in Allentown, as he lay asleep in the back seat. Edward Diehl, returning from a hunting trip, discovered the aban doned car on a dirt mountain road three miles east of Lehighton, end ing the 37-hour search. The child's mother, Mrs. Albert Parker, left the car keys in the Ignition and police theorized the thief drove off in the car without even noticing the youngster in the back seat. Cerbitz didn't remove his unl. form. He drowned a third of the way across. Smith stripped his clothes off and reached the other side, was picked up by a passing car and taken to a gas station. S391-533 Emilie Dionne Will Be Buried In Bushland Site; Throngs Pay Last Homage CALLANDER, Ont., IIP) Emilie Dionne will be buried today in a country cemetery grave dug by her uncle, ' , The body ef the 30-year-old girl, one of the famous quintuplets, will be borne from the faded red brick Roman Catholic church at nearby Corbeil to its resting place in a northern Ontario bushland burying ground, near the graves of her four, pioneer grandparents and a mile from her 'home. The Rev. W. H. Lafrance of Corbeil, longtime friend of the" Dionne family was to officiate at the funeral mass In the little church of the Sacred Heart of .Jesus. CHiva Dionne, Emilie's father, said last night the public would be admitted to the service after the family and close friends were seated. The church accommodates only a few hundred persons. Because the Corbeil, parish has no official gravedigger, each fam ily must prepare Its interment spot.
