Calif. 11 Some 500 Yurok Indians along the Klam ath River In Del Norte County Fri day were reported fasting to sup port an Indian claims suit being heard here. The fast was reported by Mrs. G. Dornbacb, executive secretary ot the California Council of Indians, one of. the groups involved In the litigation. She said she heard the fast which, according to Indisn lore, Is to purify their souls on: thereby strencthen their case had heen organized by Clifford Wlnton, a Yu rok tribesman. She said Indians in the Hoops Reservation extension, which runs along; the Klamath River beiween the Hamlets of Klamath and Smith River, were reported participating tn the fast. The Indians are suing the goven ment for $93,150,000 in payment for lands they said white pioneers took from their ancestors.
