W Nine thousand paratroopers, some car rying Geiger counters instead of guns, were ready to strike from Uie skies today in war games training the Army and Air Force in atomic defense. The mass jump, the biggest one day airborne operation since the RJiineland drop in 1945, was sched uled a half hour after the neutral izing of five drop zones through the simulated dropping of an atomic bomb. A fleet of 400 C119 Flying Box. cars was marshaled at three Caro lina Air Force bases to move the paratroopers into battle. The day's operation, a high spot of Exercise Flash Burn and Exer cise Tacalr 54-7. separate Army and Air Force maneuvers, was de signed to test the mobility and flexibility of ihe nation's armed forces. New concepts of warfare, resulting from electronic and atomic developments, are being tried out. - The paratroopers came from the 82nd Airborne Division. Their mis sion was to seize an 80-square-mile airhead for the air landing of ele ments of the 37th Infantry Division from Camp Polk, La., for immedi ate combat operations about 1,000 miles from their home base. Airborne spokesmen report ed that the use of an atom bomb on an airhead to neutralize It be fore the dropping of paratroopers would ease their operations. The broadcast by the voice ol the United Nations Command the UNC propaganda agency was in both Korean and Chinese. It said its information came from a Communist newspaper published in Nannlng. a Chinese province near Dien Biea Phu. The broadcast asserted the Feb. 11 issue of the paper said Chinese Communists and Russian ministries of Posts and Telecommunications bad agreed to open communica tions between N aiming and Moscow. Crash Sire Found By Rescue Workers , TDXTLA GUTIERREZ, Mexico, LP) Rescue teams reached the scene of a commercial airliner crash yesterday and reported that all six persons aboard the plane were dead.
