District February 16 at the Soil District To Hold Meet The annual meeting of the Klam ath Soil Conservation District has been set for 7:30 p.m. February 16, at the Midland Grange Hall, it was announced today by Chairman Myron Taylor. On the agenda for the meeting will be the annual report and plans for 19S4: Election of a supervisor to fill the unexpired term of Kelly Robinette and an open discus sion of the proposed Midland Drain age District. Included in the speakers who will discuss the proposed district will be: Carroll H. Dwyer, soil con servation service economist, Port land, whose topic will be "Eco nomic feasibility"; E. L. Stephens and J. P. Elmore, Bureau of Rec lamation officials, "bureau re quirements and obtaining Interest free government money"; Lyle C. Smith, SCS engineer, Klamath Palls, who VIII present tentative plans and costs and A. R. Oross, Klamath experimental station, will speak on drainage benefits. All persons in the Klamath soil conservation district and those in terested In the proposed drainage district and their families are in vited to attend. Refreshments will be served. i Astoria Union Asks Dredging ASTORIA im Dredging will start next week on Slip Two. waterfront workers were assured Wednesday. They were at a port meeting to protest the grounding of a- Japanese ship here earlier this week and loss of business and pay when the vessel left without completing Its loading. Fort officials admitted their faces were red about the grounding, but assured the protesting longshore men that -immediate action would be taken to deepen the slip. They said that this was only the third grounding of a vessel in the port in 13 years and that during the period the port had spent S90.0O0 to dredge Us slips. Complaints and questions about the operation of the port were heard from representatives of 12 dilfcrcnt union locals at the meet ing. Correction On Tax Instructions WASHINGTON I Internal Revenue Service officials ex plained Thursday ihe circum stances under which the costs of participation in group hospitals uoii and neaitn plans may be o ducted in making out an Income tax relum. If paid on a monthly or other regular oasis, like insurance pre' mlums, these costs may be con sidered as medical expenses, They may not be deducted oen- rately but must be lumped with ouirr medical and dental expenses in determining wnether tola med iral expenses will reach a deducti ble level.
