Mrs. Bates said Stewart left camp each morning and returned at night. Monday night he failed to return and a search of his tent revealed he had taken no bedding or extra food with him. His rifle was the only article missing. The Wagon Wheelers, a mounted sheriff's posse, started the search in coordination with two teams of Alaskan sled dogs.
