Photo by Miller-Brumbaugh CHILOQUIN By DARLENE WOLFF "The happiest season of the year," the Christmas season, brought many Chiloquin families together to celebrate. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Zimer man drove to Klamath Falls the Monday preceding Christmas to get their daughter Ethel, at the airport when she flew in to spend a couple of weeks here after an absence of more than two years. Ethel had worked for lumber films here, In Seattle and in San Francisco fol lowing her years at Oregon State College. A little over two years ago she went to Washington, D.C.. to take a training course and then to Japan to work for two years as a civilian with the army. A the end of her work there, rather than return across the Pa cific, she traveled to Hong Kong, Macoa, Singapore, Bombay, Cairo, Cnpri and Rome. During that trip she visited famous shrines, ob served many customs of the coun tries, tried unusual foods, rode a camel at the Sphinx. In Rome she began a 32 day train tour of Euro pean countries, covering Italy al most completely, and also visiting Switzerland, Austria, Germany, France i and England. After four days In London she flew to New York, on to Washington, D.C. and to San Francisco to visit with friends. When she leaves here she wiir visit her sister and brother-in-law in St. Louis, Mo., then to Washing ton, D.C, for a few months' train ing course with the state depart ment before going somewhere over seas In an administrative capacity. Mr. and Mrs. Zimmerman and Ethel were Christmas Day guests of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Stmger. Ethel has shown her colorful 35 mm. pictures to several smoll groups of friends during her stay here. Interesting bits of news hear dur ing vacation Ethel Zimmerman met a former chiloquin resident while in Japan. George Doney, who is now a major in the Marines and has a wife In California. The Zimmerman's other daugh ter, Pat. who lives in St. Louis, is appearing on television as a home economics demonstrator. At the Forest Freid home Mrs. Freld's porents, the Rev. and Mrs. Leonard Buck and her sister Eu lenc Buck, all of Tualltln, were guests lor four days. Other guests on Christmas Day for both the early morning tree and for a turkey dinner later in the day were Mrs. Freld's other sister, her brother-in-law and Infant nephew. She was here for the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Acuff, formerly of Klamath Falls, now living in Beaverton. They were houseguests at the home of Debra's maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Robatcek, 1519 Oregon Avenue. Her mother was Elaine Robatcek. Paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Acuff, live in Hillsboro. Another holiday visitor was Debra's two months old cousin, Lorelei Gail Metier, whose mother is Mrs. Acuff's sister, Jackie. Her father is Jack Metier Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Metier, 4894 Boardman. "v,6N "f VV 7 ' i M SERVICE STARS ... are no novelty to Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Mitchell, 619 North Eleventh Street, who celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary, Dec. 29. They have seven children and 9 grandchildren; and of the seven children, five are sons all of whom have served with the USAF. Three of the boys are still in active service. Jessie, the oldest, now stationed in Texas, has served 17 years 42 months of them spent as a prisoner in Japan during World War II. Alton is in Germany and Dew.tt is in Newfoundland; Lonnie is in San Francisco and Bobbie Lee is in Medford. Married daughter, Sue, is Mrs Les Wisecarver, Mt. Shasta, whose husband is in Korea. The basketball game played in Silver Lake Tuesday, Dec. 22, be tween the "Lakers" and the Sis ters team resulted in a victory for the "Lakers."
