These are programs of technical insti tute type which meet the criteria established by the council, Inspec tion of these curricula was done on April 10, 1953, by the council's subcommittee on technical Insti tutes at the request of the State Board of Education,) acting through the administration at Ore gon Tech, according to W, D. Pur vine, OTI director. In their Inspection of Oregon Technical Institute for the meet ing of these nationwide require ments, the subcommittee checked curriculum content and duration, methods of instruction, physical facilities, requirements for ad mission, qualifications of teaching staff, as well as the Institute It self as being a stable organization having adequate financial support achievement in the technical in stitute field. Accreditation of these training programs on a nationwide basis Is a considerable recognition for the board and the Institute. The coun cil is a joint bodv concerned with I the status of the engineer and en gineering profession, and serves as the agency for the accrediting or engineering and technical cur ricula in the United States. Con stituent bodies of the council are The American Society of Civil Engineers, The American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical En gineers, The American Society of Mechanical Engineers, The Amer ican Institute of Electrical Engi neers, American' Society lor Engi neering Education, The American Institute of Chemical Engineers, The National Council of State Boards of Engineering Examiners, and the affiliated Engineering In stitute of Canada, The movement to accredit tech nical institutes is an outgrowth of a program for accrediting under graduate engineering curricula which has been lu operation since 1932 "through the committee on engineering schools established by the council. In 1944, a subcommit tee on technical Institutes was set up and given the resp'onsibility of nnnmisinor and recommending for accrediting the curricula of tech nical institute type otlered by in stitutes organized under public, private or industrial auspices.
