Mrs. Stevens was the former Leah Bradley and well known in Lake County. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Duncan, San Rafael, Calif., left Monday for their home following a three week's visit with her cousin, Mrs. wuuam Har vv and family. Mr. Wagers is teaching the 5th and 6th grades In the Paisley school and driving the ' school bus from here. He transports high school pupils from the Ana River district and grade school pupils from the Withers dis trict. Cattle Advisory Meeting Called WASHINGTON Wl Secretary ol Agriculture Benson has called special meeting of a livestock ad visory committee here Sept. 2 on government programs fcr stabiliz ing cattle prices. The meeting of the 26-member group composed of representa tives of producers, packers ana meat distributors will precede an expected heavy run of cattle to slaughter mantels, wnicn nuut bring on price declines. Foreign Aid Chief Harold E. Stassen announced last night that, while beef is thus moving plenti fully to market, his agency will purchase up to 10 million dollars worm tor use in we overseas am program. The Agriculture Department an nouncement of the livestock com mittee meeting quoted Benson as saying the beef purchased by Stas sen's agency will be from lower cost animals. The market for these was, reported to need strengthen ing. Benson was also quoted as say ing "aggressive actions" taken by his department have restored con fidence in cattle markets by stab ilizing producer prices. The Modoc Medical Center re ports two new arrivals this week: a baby girl for Mr. and Mrs. Leo Crabtree of Willow Ranch, born 6ept. 13 and weighing 7 Its. 6','t oz; and a baby girl born to Mn and Mrs. James Hetherwlck of Altur as on Sept. 14 and weighing' 6 lbs. 142 oz. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Troy of Look out, Cailf. Mr. and Mrs. P. Acosta, Mary, Camilla, Laurence and Julian, all of Alturas, and Paul of L'unsmuir left Alturas Sept. 15 for Ban Fran cisco to meet Roy Acosta who ar rived on the General William Black from Inchon. The ship was sched uled to dock at Fort Mason Sept. 16. Roy had been a prisoner of war in Korea for 22 months. Plumas County District Attornev John P. Kcane says there is not enough evidence yet to prosecute Jack Santo and Emmett Perkins. for the Chester murders. However, Keane says Investigation will con tinue. Santo and Perkins are sus pected. in the slaying of Chester, grocer, Guard Young and three children . last October. Santo and Perkins are now being tried in Southern California for the murder of Mrs. Mabel Monahan of Bur- bank. If they escape the death pen alty in Los Angeles, Plumas Coun ty could then take them into cus tody for trial on the Chester mur der Don Pollard, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Pollard of Alturas, left his past week for Santa" Barbara State College. The recention was sdo sored by the Norval Line Officers Association with the Alturas Chan ter acting as hostess for the eve ning. The Modoc National Forest had a total of 14 lightning flies during the recent concentration. All the fires were small with the excep tion of one Just west of die Lava Beds National Monument. Approxi mately 2,000 acres of grassland burned before it was brought un der control. Ed Wilson, an eldeiiv man who has lived in Plush the past two years and who has been in very 'poor health, left last week by stage for Lakeview to enter the Old Peoplc"s Nursing Home. Pauline Orlscl and Dixie Dixon visited the new Catholic Church last Friday. It is a beautiful build ing and well made, it will be ready for dedication Sept. 27 and has a seating capacity of 80. They went by way of Reno to San ta Barbara where Mrs. Prowell's family had its first complete re union In 17 years. Tho -.Prowells took the boys on to Los Angeles, out to Knott's Berry farm and to an animal farm where they wit nessed an hour show put on by the animals trained for movies. Joanne Weddle returned last week from a vacation spent in San Francisco- She drove down with JoAnn Sisemore of fort Klamath. Orln and Frieda arrived uome last Monday morning after a vacation Mr. and Mrs. Kirk and Orln had left ten days earlier for Reno, Salt Lake City, Yellows.cne Park. to Montana on business, to Glacier Park and then to Seattle where they met Frieda who had flown back from Sitka, Alaska, where sne nad been visiting an aunt and uncle for a month. Frieda made the trip In excellent condition but was home less than 24 houra when she was bucked off a racing horse and so began her senior year in nign scnooi ruesaay in a some what crippled condition. For two months they had tried ' to buy a certain type animal here in Klamath County or in tne Rogue River Valley and finally got one in Multnomah county. Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Kesslnger and Raymond Ray, recently re turned from a week's vacation in Tacoma, Wash., where Kesslnger lived as a youth, it was a new experience for Mrs. Kessinger and Ray, for they came from Tennes see earlier this summer and are getting their first glimpse of the northwest. Guests of Mr. and Mrs. William Prlebe over Labor Day were rela' lives from Portland, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Perkins, Priebe e daugh ter, son-in-law and grandchildren from Fort Klamath, the Gene Page family. Visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Mannering last week were his brother and nephew, Bob Mannering and Bobble, from Oak land, Calif. - Comparative newcomers to Chi! oquln are Mr. and Mr.s. M. T. Hall and their four young chil dren. They are living directly across from Lorens store. Hall is a logger. Mr. and Mrs., John JKderholm and young sons camped at Buck creek over Labor Day, but ported fishing far from excellent. Mrs. Joderholm's mother. Mrs. El lis, had returned to Seatlle a few days earlier after coming south with her daughter in mid-August. Mrs. Eileen Esqueda visited In cnnoqum over Labor Day with her children. Janet and Pep Parker, at tne Lewis Jones heme. Mrs. Esqueda returned to "California where she Is staying wtih her mother who has been ill and is helping her parents paint and fin ish a new home. Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Kircher re ceived word Sept. 10 of the birth that day of a 7 lb. 11 oz baby girl, a first child, to Mr. and Mrs. Mark Balfour of Riddle. The youngster was born in a Roseburg. nospital. The Ba Hours are former Chlloquln residents. He managed Copeland Yards before reluming to the Navy for service in '50. Mr. and Mrs. AI Cline and chil dren moved into the Bob Had resi dence in east Chiloqum last week from their home in the Rogue Ri ver valley. Cline is the new Jani tor of the high school. All the third graders were sur prised last Tuesday to see a class mate of last year who had moved away during the summer--Jeanne Gauthier. Jeanne will live near Fort Klamath with her s;.-ler and brother - in - law, Mr. and Mrs. James Dyche, and will come on the bus to the Chlloquln chool. visited the Rlverman's new hunt ing cabin. It has a kitchen, bath, sitting room and a fire place. Mr. Holt from Lakeview is doing the carpenter work. Barry Taylor is having his ranch house remodeled and two extra rooms added. Jlmmie Kielcy and Tom Mccar ty are riding for the Kleley cat tle on Hart Mt. John Overton and Jo-An Caswell are helping the Kieleys finish hay ing. There was no school part of last week. The teacher received the sad news of her son's death by drown ing. Mrs. Hays left immediately. Sincere sympathy is extended her.
