The movie queen is Lucille Ball and workmen knocked a hole through a' 'thick studio wall (built to keep people out) so Lucille's audience could by-pass the studio gateman and- get in. ' ' ' After knocking that hole through the studio wall, the workmen built p. series of raised platforms' and Installed 300 plush seats right on the sound stage floor behind the cameras. Darned if they didn't build a fancy theater-like lobby, too, com plete with rest rooms, thick red carpet and uniformed ushers. No boxoffice. though because admis sion is free. Arthur Kendall, general superin tendent and engineer for the mines, called lt "the finest looking body of ore I have ever seen in my entire career." He said assays showed a gold content valued at from 400 to 700 a ton. About $14 worth a ton is necessary to extract the pre cious metal profitably. J. D. Swift, president of the mines, described the strike as sim ilar to the "Bonanza shoot," which netted his company more than a million dollars a year in 1938 and 1939. Central Eureka operates in California's historic, but largely mined-out mother lode country. Paving Bond Election Set LAKEVIEW The council adopt ed ordinance No. 381 which sets November 6 as the date for a vote of the town electors on the matter of whether to float a $160, 000 bond issue for paving more town streets. The voting will be in the town hall from 9 a. m. to 5 p. m. A paving project was recently completed covering 3.3 miles at a total cost oi si8,S82.46. lie money was raised through a three-year 24-mill serial tax plus funds from the town's share of the highway gas tax. The proposed bond issue is the part of councilmen to pave more streets and to get the money ready so the work can be done next year. Dry Creek Boy Wins Coif LAKEVIEW Duane Haven, son of Mr. and Mrs. Austin Haven, Dry Creek district, has been named winner f registered Jer sey calf given by the Lakeview grade A dairy association and the Lakeview Creamery Co. The announcement was made by Lee Hansen, 4-H club agent. The calf, bought at Grants Pass for this purpose, was displayed at the notary livestock auction at fair time, but the winner had not then been determined. The association and the cream ery sponsor this award to encour age better dairy projects among 4-H members. Duane was the winner of first place in the chamber of commerce dairy contest in 1950, also. The prize was a cash award. Hie win ner in the new contest is judged on quality of club work, his future as a dairyman, and his general attl ude and cooperation in club work. Woman Spanked, Mm Jailed LOS ANGELES. Itf) Robert J. Pack, 55, was sentenced to 180 days in the city jail yesterday for the spanking he gave to Mary Mc Laren, 51, an actress in the silent screen days. Pack, an insurance salesman, telephoned Miss MacLaren July 23 In response t her advertisement offering her services as a child's companion. Pack has a 14-year-old daughter whom, he said, he "had to spank sometimes." He would have to spank Miss MacLaren, too, he added, "to see If she could be come one of the family." .
