Love Lucy," a comedy series in
which she co-stars with husband
Desl Arnaz, supported by movie
veteran William Frawley and
Broadway import Vivian Vance.
The first film will be seen, on
coast-to-coast CBS-TV Oct. 15 with

Filmine of "I Love Lucv" Is as
precedent-shattering as the hole in
the studio wall. .
As Desl. who put the idea to-
gether (Lucille claims she "didn't
have anything to do with it. Desi
deserved the credit. I was home
hnving a baby") sees it:
we re putting a stage show on
film for television."
All three techniques are repre
sented in the setup. The director,
Marc Daniel, Is from the New
York stage and TV. Cameraman
Karl Freund is a movie veteran
who lensed several of Lucille's
films at MGM.
If you want to be confused, here
is the way it works:
The show is rehearsed like a
show on a bare stage with chalk
marks on the floor indicating walls
and furniture. Then it's rehearsed
on the set in front of three movie
cameras Just like a movie. ,
Then they let the audience !tn
and they shoot the scenes with all
three cameras and the sound track
picking up the audience laughter.
Then the audience ernes lioni
and Lucille and Desi and the Cast
run through their lines again while
the cameras move in for closeups.

Says Desi:
"Dnrlf. alone at home like to
feel that they are part of the audi

to hear an audience reaction."
Claims Producer Oppenheimer:
An audience dictates to an actor
what to do. He has to stop and
acknowledge the audience s reac
tion. Hollywood takes care of the
problem with previews before a
film is released.
We don't have time to preview
our films. So instead of tukiw our
pictures to an audience, . rwe've
brought our audience :to the pic

Gold Strike
Assays High
JACKSON, Calif., w Central
Eureka gold mines yesterday re
ported its biggest gold strike In
more than 10 years In the vicinity
of the old Eureka shaft at nearby
Sutter creek.
Arthur Kendall, general superin
tendent and engineer for the
mines, called lt "the finest looking
body of ore I have ever seen in
my entire career."
He said assays showed a gold
content valued at from 400 to
700 a ton. About $14 worth a ton
is necessary to extract the pre
cious metal profitably.
J. D. Swift, president of the
mines, described the strike as sim
ilar to the "Bonanza shoot," which
netted his company more than a
million dollars a year in 1938 and
1939. Central Eureka operates in
California's historic, but largely
mined-out mother lode country.
