As observed by a Herald and News staffer: Two high school boys at the corner of 6tb and Main were by passed by Santa's helpers dishing out the candy canes. They were given the go-by at least three times when one turned to a mother of two small girls and asked to borrow the children. They scooped the little ones up In their arms, tore across the street to a candy cane distributing dwarf, got a cane for each child and ran back to the mother. The youngsters were presented, the canes removed from their hands, and when last seen the high school kids were happily munching away on the sweet stuff. Which Just goes to prove that the sweet tooth doesn't slacken when you leave the first grade! John J. Pickett of Coquille was appointed deputy district attorney for Coos county this week. Mr. and Mrs. Pickett and daughter Marcta moved to Coquille in September, ana John opened his law offices. Mrs. Pickett is the former Fay Stelnsetfer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Steinseifer of this city. Miss Roberta Harris of Summer Lake spoke from Chicago last Saturday on the American Farmer program over ABC. Roberta Is in Chicago attending the national 4-H club congress, as she was the state winner in the home Improvement field in 4-H club. She was picked to speak on the program as an average 4-H girl to tell about living on a cattle ranch. Wives of graduating senior members of the Oregon State college football team were honored Monday at the annual senior ring banquet In the grand ballroom of the Multnomah hotel in Portland. Among the seven honored wives were Mrs. Donald Mast, the former Barbara Moore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Moore of this city. Invitations have been received here for the wedding of Miss Helen Moore and Major George Oliver Kinney. Helen is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Moore and Major Kinney is the son of Mrs. Nell Kinney of this city and Oliver Kinney of Sprague River. St. Paul's Episcopal church will be the setting for the ceremony which will be an event of December 29. The Rev. and Mrs. F. C. Wissenbach have been entertained every night this week at the homes of their friends, with family dinners. They will leave next week to make their home in Bend, where Reverend Wissenbach will be minister of the Trinity Episcopal church. Two Oregon State college kids are finishing a busy fall term, on a pleasant note. Oaylord Upington, son of Mr. and Mrs. O. M. Uplngton of this city, was one of two students honored this week when his name was engraved on the new permanent scholarship plaque of Phi Lambda Upsilon. chemistry and chemical engineering honor society, at Oregon State. The two were chosen as outstanding in the schools of chemistry and chemical engineering during their freshmen and sophomore years. Oaylord is now a Junior. Rotary club Is planning a dance for students home from college on December 28. a Wednesday and It's freel The Willard hotel has been engaged for the affair, and Morrison and McDonald will play for dancing. Sandwiches and punch will be served. A large committee will arrange details. 0 is The Christmas spirit Is everywhere. Camp Fire groups are making dolls for children who might not have that new doll under the tree, and other charitable organisations have arranged to have baskets cf food and needed articles for these under-privileged families at Christ mas, too. Almost all clubs are planning Christmas parties and gilt ex changes a busy time Indeed. A good old-fashioned house-warming was enjoyed by friends of Mr. and Mrs. Paul McCall, who Just moved in at 1500 Johnson street, last Sunday. The men came early and helped lay the floor: later the womenfolk arrived to serve a potluck dinner. Mrs. Lyle Kellstrom aud Mrs. Wayne Scott, hostesses, decorated the house with Christmas greens, complete with Juniper berries, holly and pine cones. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs, Murel Long, Mr, and Mrs. Imle Bishop, Mr. and Mrs. Charles McLIn, Mr. and Mrs, Francis Scapple, Mr, and Mrs. Bob Perry. Mr. and Mrs. James Smith. Don Merrill, Mr. and Mrs, BlU Jones Jr, Wayne Scott, and Lyle Kellstrom. THE REV. AND MRS. FREDERICK C. WIS SENBACH are bidding their many friend good-bye before their departure next week. Rev.
