Mr. and Mrs. John McMlchael Jr. of Anderson, Calif, were vis itor In Weed over the week-end of October 39. Both of their fami lies. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. McMlchael Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. Ault, reside In Weed. Last Sunday Jack and Frank Lin ville. George and Leland Dunlap and Paul Adams went to the Klam ath river salmon fishing and all reported good catches. Jim Williams suffered a broken rib in the game with Dunsmutr Saturday. October 29. The senior class of Weed High la going to have a Sadie Hawkins dance November 16. Carmel and Brlglda Rodriques were boms, Saturday. October 28. They are both attending Chlco State. Mrs. Vera Pousome. formerly Vera Mclntyre, had a bridal show er Thursday, November 4. at her soother's home at 4 Camino Row. Miss Lillian Hughes came np over the week-end of October 29 to visit. Mlis Hughes is attending a beauty school In Sacramento, A party and dance were given for Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mills at the Edgewood hall Saturday night, October 39. Music was furnished by the Edgewood orchestra. Re freshments were served at mid night. Mrs. Mills Is the former Miss Houser, who taught girls P.E. at Weed High during '47 and '4S. Robert Adams, son of Mr. and Mrs. X. O. Adams of Weed, -spent four days in the infirmary at Sun ford with the mumps. Harold Ritchey, who has been home tor a 17-day leave, and Qlen Wilson spent the last week. Octo ber 34 through November 1. visit ing friends In Portland. Ore. Har old Ritchey is in the navy and is now stationed at San Francisco. Funeral services were held for Jack Hand Wednesday. November t, at the Weed Community church. The green chain at the Weed Mil was practically destroyed Wednesday, November 3. when the building caught fire. The cause of the fire is unkonwn as it started so suddenly. The main building was saved, but the mill will be unable to run for some time. The Weed Cougars and Dunsmuir Tigers are tied for the champion ship as the score now stands. Both the Cougars and the Tigers have lost one game. Weed High's C team walked off New Pine Creek The weather has been so very fine of late, however, one wonders. If there will be enough wild game left on ice to do the lob? But mlng right down to barnyard log ic, what could be better than that old speckled hen and noodles. The Happy Hour club met on Tuesday afternoon. October 1. at the home of Mrs. Myrna Barrows, with 14 members present. Plans were made for the annual Christ mas party. Presents were received from secret pals by Mrs. Jo Cog burn and Jessie McLaln. After the business meeting the members plaved an object guessing game. Thelma Butler won first prise and Annie Wade second prise. Refresh menu of baked apples and ginger bread, coffee and chocolate were served. The next meeting will be on November 15 at the home of Mrs. Eunice Cogburn. The Teen-age masquerade party held last Saturday night sponsored by the East Side grange was re ported to be a grand success. On Thursdsy afternoon a Halloween party was given at the First Bap tist church for the little folks, first and second graders, of which Mrs. Cora Cook and Mrs. Mable Hamp ton had charge. Candy and ice cream were passed out and a vari ety of games played. On Friday night the church held a masked, costumed party lor tne older children which proved to be a lot of fun tor those attending. Prises were given out for the best and funniest costumes. Mrs. Ruby Partin was in charge of the party. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Medlock and family of Spray. Ore. are visit ing a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Pelmer Smith and the Charlie Vin cent family. Mrs. Medlock Is a sis ter to Delmer. They have been enjoying the hunting and fishing. Mrs. Homer Tucker was shocksd Saturday when the family received word that her youngest brother El mer Benton had been killed In a car accident near Tulare. Calif. Full particulars were not learned as of this date. A birthday party was given for Margaret Robnett celebrating her sixth, brithday. Those present were Joan Carter, Joyce Robnett. Janet Paris, Leeta Perry. Nelda Thomp son. Carol Marshall. Gloria Ayoutt, Audry Millsap, Arlene anDarlene Robnett. ' Gilchrist Mr. and Mrs. Rob Ward and their daughter. Mildred, went to Bend Sunday afternoon. The Gilchrist Community Gar den club will hold its regular meet ing Thursday. November 3. Mr. H. N. Corey, forest ranger. Cres cent, will speak on "Conservation" and show films. The Henley Hornets trounced the Gilchrist Crushes, 32-7. on the Henley gridiron, Friday. The D's also beat Etna, bar the toss of a previous game kept them from re ceiving their championship. Ruth Nlswonger and Nina Niles were visitors in the home of Mr. end Mrs. Dean Ratabun and family of Dunsmuhv Miss Nlswonger and Miss NUes had attended the foot ball fame October 39, and then spent the night at the Rathbuns home. Miss Sydney Smith was given surprise party on her birthday, October 39. It was Miss Smith's ltth birthday. Mack Register, who has been foreman of the lath mill, retired after 46 years of service with Long Bell. The Clinton Bruiser family re cently moved to Mt. Shasta where Mr. Brtnser Is employed with, the police force there. Mr. and Mrs. Myrl Cromwell went to Klamath Falls Tuesday, November 1, on a business trip. The Young People's group of the Baptist church in Weed helt a Halloween party at the home of Margaret Dawson, one of the mem bers of the group. The party was held on October 39. Jo- Ann, Kenneth and Mertie Conklin also attended tne dinner. A movie, "God the Creator. was presented at the Shevlin Commu nity church Monday. October 31. Mr. Swanson, from Seattle, and representative of the Moody Bible Institute of Chicago, accompanied by Rev. TJHenn of Crescent pre sented the movie. Ole Halberson and his band played for the public Halloween dance held at the Gilchrist club October 29. A good sized crowd turned out for this affair. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Fletcher and Mr. and Mrs. James Bourn and family visited Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Anderson of Gilchrist over the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher returned to their home in Detroit, Ore., but Mr. and Mrs. Bourn and family are remaining at the Andersons tor a few days' visit. Leon Karris of Chemult visited James Garner Saturday and Sun' day. Saturday night they attended the Halloween dance. Sunday the boys enjoyed duck hunting. The result? Leon got his limit. The car will be a big help to the minister and family In their work tor the community. T. D. Peairs underwent surgery at the Klamath Valley hospital Tues day and is reported to be recovering. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Wise returned home Monday from taking Wise's mother Mrs. Sabra Wise to her home at Montague. Calif. Wise and his mother were called to Fal lon. Nev. last week when Mrs. the Shevlin Camp Fire Girls was given at Shevlin October 38. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Kennon and Mr. and Mrs. John Guathny, all of Shevlin. went to Bend October 28 to shop. Clifford Wright, Winford Porter and Mrs. Wright of Shevlin spent Saturday In Bend shopping. Mr. and Mrs. A. Nichols and Mr. and Mrs. H. Beavers spent Satur day In Klamath Falls shopping. Tony Cook of Shevlin spent Sat urday shopping at Klamath Falls. Jim Van Tassel and Barbara Cook of Shevlin were guests of Jimmy Shelton at Corvallls Satur day. Ernest Aryes of Susanville, Calif, visited at the home of his daughter Mrs. Gray Brannon Friday night. Other guests at the Brannon home were cousins, Mr. and Mrs. R. Bow en and daughter Iris of Westwood. Calif. On Saturday, Mrs. Brannon and daughters Fay and Gayle went to Medford to attend a family re union held at the home of Mr. an Mrs. Charles McKee. Howard Jackson and O. L. Mel ton left Saturday for Burns on an elk hunting trip. Mr and Mrs Jay Fairclo left last week for Jerome. Idaho to visit their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Brissrnden. Ed Ryan of Portland arrived to accompany his wife and daughter home. They have been visiting at the home of Mrs. Rvan's parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. S. Thompson. Rev. J. R,' DeLap left Tuesday morning for Longvlew. Wash., to at tend a conference. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Mack returned home Friday night from Coos Bay where they visited a brother of Mrs. Mack. Recent visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Kendall and family were her father, W. A. Par rish. two brothers. Arthur and Rav Parrish and a brother-in-law E. O. Jones, all of Newberg. They were here for the opening days of the duck and goose season. Jack Tavlor left Wednesday nlaht for an elk hunting trip to Baker and Elgin. Guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Chambers recently were friends from Los Angeles, Mr. and Mrs. Del Hubbard. It has been seven years since the friends had visited. Merrill The annual high school carnival held October 3. waa a decided suc cess. Several hundred attended and enjoyed the various games and con rrsslona sponsored by each class. Helen Kleth representing the Junior class waa crowned queen of the carnival, and a group of girls pre sented a Hawaiian number. Prises were donated by Klamath Falls and Merrill merchants. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Kerr of Port land were entertained at the Cliff Shuck home over the potato festival week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Stewart drove to Brookings Inst week-end with the Klamath Falls 8PFU8Q8A chorus who participated in the bsrbershop show there. The second National School as sembly program of the year was held last Monday In the high school gym. The program featured two talking Mynah birds, and was one of the most Interesting programs ever held for the students. The Bluebird girls of the 3rd and 4th grades are meeting each Tues day in the recreation hall. Lorraine Mahaffey Is the leader, and at their last meeting the .girls enjoyed a Halloween party. Halloween was comparatively quiet In Merrill with "soaped" win dows the only damage noted. Most of the youngsters were out ' trick and treating." and some weird cos tumes were noted. Grade school stu dents had room part lea during the afternoon and the Tern-Age club held a dancing party in the recrea tion hall Monday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Cole and family visited at the Max Harlle rode home over the week-end. Tom my got his limit of ducks while here. The Coles, former Merrill residents, now live In Colma. Calif. Teachers In the schools are con tributing a box of apples as one of the prises for the sale sponsored by the Parents-Patrons club. Tick eta were sent home with the young sters this week. Proceeds will go to purchase an album of records for the music department. ' Friends will be interested to know thst a baby boy. Arltas Carol, was born October 13, to Mrs. Hilary Winebarger. The baby arrived at St. Paul's hospital In Uvermore. Calif. Mrs. Winebarger is now i at the home of her mother Mrs. Wslter Robison at Mt. Hebron. Lewis Kandra and O J. Harris have gone to Troy.
