night. Mrs. Mills Is the former
Miss Houser, who taught girls P.E.
at Weed High during '47 and '4S.
Robert Adams, son of Mr. and
Mrs. X. O. Adams of Weed, -spent
four days in the infirmary at Sun
ford with the mumps.
Harold Ritchey, who has been
home tor a 17-day leave, and Qlen
Wilson spent the last week. Octo
ber 34 through November 1. visit
ing friends In Portland. Ore. Har
old Ritchey is in the navy and is
now stationed at San Francisco.
Funeral services were held for
Jack Hand Wednesday. November
t, at the Weed Community church.
The green chain at the Weed
Mil was practically destroyed
Wednesday, November 3. when the
building caught fire. The cause of
the fire is unkonwn as it started
so suddenly. The main building was
saved, but the mill will be unable
to run for some time.
The Weed Cougars and Dunsmuir
Tigers are tied for the champion
ship as the score now stands. Both
the Cougars and the Tigers have
lost one game.
Weed High's C team walked off

The weather has been so very
fine of late, however, one wonders.
If there will be enough wild game
left on ice to do the lob? But

old speckled hen and noodles.
The Happy Hour club met on
Tuesday afternoon. October 1. at
the home of Mrs. Myrna Barrows,
with 14 members present. Plans
were made for the annual Christ
mas party. Presents were received
from secret pals by Mrs. Jo Cog
burn and Jessie McLaln. After the
business meeting the members
plaved an object guessing game.
Thelma Butler won first prise and
Annie Wade second prise. Refresh
menu of baked apples and ginger
bread, coffee and chocolate were
served. The next meeting will be
on November 15 at the home of
Mrs. Eunice Cogburn.
The Teen-age masquerade party
held last Saturday night sponsored
by the East Side grange was re
ported to be a grand success. On
Thursdsy afternoon a Halloween
party was given at the First Bap
tist church for the little folks, first
and second graders, of which Mrs.
Cora Cook and Mrs. Mable Hamp
ton had charge. Candy and ice
cream were passed out and a vari
ety of games played.
On Friday night the church held
a masked, costumed party lor tne
older children which proved to be
a lot of fun tor those attending.
Prises were given out for the best
and funniest costumes. Mrs. Ruby
Partin was in charge of the party.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Medlock
and family of Spray. Ore. are visit
ing a few days with Mr. and Mrs.
Pelmer Smith and the Charlie Vin
cent family. Mrs. Medlock Is a sis
ter to Delmer. They have been
enjoying the hunting and fishing.
Mrs. Homer Tucker was shocksd
Saturday when the family received
word that her youngest brother El
mer Benton had been killed In a
car accident near Tulare. Calif.
Full particulars were not learned
as of this date.
A birthday party was given for
Margaret Robnett celebrating her
sixth, brithday. Those present were
Joan Carter, Joyce Robnett. Janet
Paris, Leeta Perry. Nelda Thomp

Gilchrist Crushes, 32-7. on the

after 46 years of service with Long

cently moved to Mt. Shasta where
Mr. Brtnser Is employed with, the
police force there.
Mr. and Mrs. Myrl Cromwell
went to Klamath Falls Tuesday,
November 1, on a business trip.
The Young People's group of
the Baptist church in Weed helt a
Halloween party at the home of
Margaret Dawson, one of the mem
bers of the group. The party was
held on October 39.

played for the public Halloween
dance held at the Gilchrist club
October 29. A good sized crowd
turned out for this affair.

and family visited Mr. and Mrs.
R. W. Anderson of Gilchrist over
the week-end. Mr. and Mrs.
Fletcher returned to their home in
Detroit, Ore., but Mr. and Mrs.
Bourn and family are remaining at
the Andersons tor a few days' visit.
Leon Karris of Chemult visited
James Garner Saturday and Sun'
day. Saturday night they attended
the Halloween dance. Sunday the
boys enjoyed duck hunting. The
result? Leon got his limit.

home Friday night from Coos Bay

were friends from Los Angeles, Mr.

seven years since the friends had
visited.

The annual high school carnival
held October 3. waa a decided suc
cess. Several hundred attended and
enjoyed the various games and con
rrsslona sponsored by each class.
Helen Kleth representing the Junior
class waa crowned queen of the
carnival, and a group of girls pre
sented a Hawaiian number. Prises
were donated by Klamath Falls and
Merrill merchants.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Kerr of Port
land were entertained at the Cliff
Shuck home over the potato festival
week-end.
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Stewart drove
to Brookings Inst week-end with the
Klamath Falls 8PFU8Q8A chorus
who participated in the bsrbershop
show there.
The second National School as
sembly program of the year was
held last Monday In the high school
gym. The program featured two
talking Mynah birds, and was one
of the most Interesting programs
ever held for the students.
The Bluebird girls of the 3rd and
4th grades are meeting each Tues
day in the recreation hall. Lorraine
Mahaffey Is the leader, and at their
last meeting the .girls enjoyed a
Halloween party.
Halloween was comparatively
quiet In Merrill with "soaped" win
dows the only damage noted. Most
of the youngsters were out ' trick
and treating." and some weird cos
tumes were noted. Grade school stu
dents had room part lea during the
afternoon and the Tern-Age club
held a dancing party in the recrea
tion hall Monday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Cole and
family visited at the Max Harlle

here. The Coles, former Merrill
residents, now live In Colma. Calif.
Teachers In the schools are con
tributing a box of apples as one
of the prises for the sale sponsored
by the Parents-Patrons club. Tick

for the music department. '
