Card Parly The regular card party will be held In the Moose hall Friday, at 3 p. m. United Holds CAB Can't Cut KF Service United Air Line declared In a brief filed today In Washington. D. C. that the civil aeronautics board does not posses the legal power to order suspension of Unit ed a operations at Klamath Falls and five other Pacific Coast cities under the "circumstances and tact that exist" In the present case pend ing before the board on renewal of the temporary certificate of South west Airways and suspension ot service by United. Other cities Involved ar Eureka, Santa Barbara, Red Bluff. Mon terey and Ballms, all In California. Argument "United can and does serve each of the six communities affected a efficiently and economically as any other air carrier. Including South west Airways, and United can and does provide air transportation service to this city and the other five at leas coat to the government In terms of mall pay requirements," according to the brief. "It Is Unlted's position that the evidence conclusively demon strates that the public convenience and necessity require the com pany services to ech of the fore going cities and that suspension of Unlted's operations at any of those point Is not Justified even If t h e legal power to suspend did exist. United further submits that a realignment of the air transporta tion map of tile West coast, such a the board now 1 trying to ac complish, can only be achieved by the voluntary agreement of the car rier Involved " Authority Unlted's authority to serve this city is covered by It permanent certificate of public convenience and necessity, whereas Southwest' service la being rendered under temporary certificate, the bnef clarrs. The public convenience public necessity for Unlted's seiv tees as testified to by these com munities Is not alone for local serv ice, but for fast, direct transporta tion to major centers and for long haul service, the brief points out. "Unlted's service maintains the position of these cities In the na tional picture." the brief continues. I sors late Wednesday afternoon "Suspension of Unlted's certilicate ! voted to ask County Road Engineer 'Siskiyou Asks nd ' Resignation Of Engineer YREKA The board of super- would leave these cities with only a multi-stop 'feeder' service to ma jor cltle nd a two-carrier service to more distant point. This is not the type of service that these com munities want or need." Truck Wreck Kills Logger Lyle Walthera for hi resignation of October 31. The board cited a number of In stance In which they charge Wal thera failed to follow the dictates of the board. Supervisor W. A. Barr of Mt. Shasta moved Walthera be removed from office but later withdrew his motion to give Walthera a chance to resign. Board Chairman Gordon Jacobs of Horn brook revealed he had asked Walthera to resign tome time ago but Walthera declined. Barr then made the motion asking for the resignation. 1 The board said the Methodist creek "bridge to nowhere" Is not the specific reason for asking for Walthera' resignation, but It Is an accumulation of Incidents, YREKA Oerald Oliver Patter son. 23.
