Aug. 20 Press re ports said today the nationalists had sped strong reinforcements Into the mountains less than 170 mile north e?U of Canton In an attempt to check the reds' southward rush. These reports probably are true, because large numbers of troops have been passing through Canton for the north the past few days. The loss of Tayu. 170 miles north east, put the communists only five miles from the border of Kwang tung province, of which Canton is the capital as well as the temporary haven of the government. The nationalist also admitted the loss of Anjen, S50 miles north of Canton and a key point on th eastern flank of th Canton-Hankow railroad. The fall of Anjen means th reds are bypassing the Hunan province defense bastion of Hengyang on th east and auggesU they are trying to cut the rail line at Leiyang. Lel yang Is 230 mile north of Canton and 70 north of th Kwangtung border. Calif, Aug. 20 Al turas Is crowded with visitors from out-of-town this week-end aa the annual Alturas rodeo gets In full swing. An estimated 7000 people witnessed the rodeo parade this morning. Practically every Alturas businesa house entered floats In the parade, and a new feature was the appear ance of 100 small children who par ticipated.
