War den Tom Smith said, alter two prls oner uprisings within 24 hours. . Both were caused by food short ages and both were controlled with out bodily violence. ' First of the two disturbances oc curred Sunday night when a short age of cookies caused a small num ber of prisoners to throw dishes and other utensils during the evening meal. Monday night, about IS Inmates rushed liito the kitchen after one had thrown a bowl of potato salad at a guard In the dining room. Some of the equipment was smash ed and food was spilled around the kitchen. Smith said no other Inmates Join ed the kitchen rioters after addi tional guards were called. He said the trouble was caused by shortage of meat and potatoes for the meal. Flood conditions In the Northwest have prevented nor mal rail and truck deliveries, the superintendent reported. All prison activities were shut down after the Monday night dis turbance. Smith said. Inmates were kept In their cells yesterday. All activities, however, were re sumed on a normal basis last night. June 10. at 8 p. m. in the chamber of commerce rooms. 323 Main street. The birds of the Kla math region will form the basis of a round table discussion and J. L. O'Donahue will speak upon the methods used In saving crippled birds. The Nature society was created to help those who are Interested in the natural history of the Klamath region to a better understanding of this subject The meetlnes of the society are open to the public. Hans Norman, who is 75 years old and totally blind, has Just completed building this fence unassisted and has the gate about ready to hang. He also built the shed behind him at 1039 Alameda, where he lives with his daughter. .Mrs. M. D. Paup and family. Norman who is 75 years old and , totally blind has just completed a symmetrical three-foot high picket fence to divide the back yard at 1039 Alameda where he lives with : his son-in-law and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. M. D. Paup and children. He is finishing the gate this week. Working quickly and accurately he has built an extension on the garage making a compact storage shed Chamber Awning Burns Tuesday City fire laddies were roused out , at 10:33 p. m. Tuesday night on an ' alarm from the chamber of com-. merce building on Main, where the awning was afire. i Firemen said a lighted cigarette ' had been thrown on the canvas. ! starting the blase. A sizeable hole ! was burned In the awning, but no j other damage done, firemen said. which he also used for a work shop. He has built a kitchen cabinet lor his daughter, affixing the hinges and door catches neatly, covering the shelves with linoleum and top ping the cabinet with metal so that hot utensils can be stored there. The elderly man moves quickly and agilely about the premises, working without assistance except verification of his level by Norman Paup, his 11 -year -old grandson. When the children are in school he does all the dishes and always re pairs anything that needs it. Norman was a coal miner most of his life in Boone. Ia., before he started to go blind. In the summers when there was no mining he did carpentry work and built a boat just before he moved to Klamath Falls, eight years ago. At that time he could still dL-stinguish daylight and night, but about six months later he lost his sight entirely.
