Surgery Aids in Cataracis When the lena of a camera la blurred, the picture which It taken will be cloudy. A cataract la almllur. Cloudlnn develop In that part of the eye which nervea na n lena, and objecla accn are no loimrr clear. A caturact la one of the difficulties With vlalon which tend U occur with ndvancliiK bko. Occasionally a cat aract can be present at birth and sometimes It Is connected with cer tain diseases, like diabetes. The amount of disturbance In alKht depends on whether all or only a part of the lens Is affected and also on the deitrce of the cloudliiK. Pur this reason people with catar acts do not all have the same dtdrie of difficulty. Also cataracts vary In the speed with which the clouding of the lens progresses. No llruf Treatment It Is common to speak of a bc KlnnliiK cataract as "Incipient" and when It Is full Krown and not Kettlnif worse, as a mature or "rl." There arc no druns to dissolve the ma terial which clouds the lens and to restore normal vision. Buch treat ment may be a reality some day. Treatment for cataract Is an op eration. Formerly, It wna necessary 1 to wait until a cataract was mature ! before It could be removed and full ; vision restored. Now surgical meth - ods are available which make It pos j sible to remove a lena with a catar ! act on It at any staice. Thla la a ! tremendous advance na It may pre I vent yeara of poor vision. I I'he causes of cataract are not known, but certainly aire plays a part and In some cases diabetes, oc cupation, or possibly heredity. Fjirller experiments with Jet drlvrn propeller aircraft have shown Unit speeds well above that for standard engines ran be at tained.
