ORECON THURSDAY, JUNE 3, 1948 Local Teacher Chosen As Member Of 'Marshall Plan In Action' Travel Group Evelyn Ickes, for the past four fears sixth grade teacher at Fair flew school in the Klamath Falls lystem, has been accepted as one It 300 students and teachers of lenlor standing to participate In The Marshall Plan In Action" lourse which will take her east and to various parts of Europe. Miss Ickes leaves Friday for her tome In Dallas to visit for a time Hth her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. I. ekes, and goes from there to Bur ilngton, Vermont, July 1. Application for the course was nade through the University of Ver nont and applications were chosen rcographically. Miss Ickes has re liRned her teaching post here and (fill report in the fall as a member if the Highland school faculty in Salem. The Marshall Plan In Action lourse Is a summer session course iffered by the University of Ver mont and State Agricultural college m co-operation with the United States department of state, the New fork City board of education, and Uie governments of Belgium. France, 3reat Britain, and The Netherlands. The group will assemble on the aniversity campus In Burlington tor the opening convocation with the representatives of the state de partment, the congress, and the par Ucipating governments. Embarka tion will be from the port of Que Dec on July 2. Regular class instruction will be liven during the Atlantic crossing. Arrival will be at the port of Le Havre with a reception at Rouen. The group will be housed at the University and Lyce's dormitories. From Paris the group will travel to Birmingham, England where lec tures are scheduled by the faculty of the University of Birmingham. Field trips have also been arranged Will Travel f - "f ,v ' ... Lectures are scheduled at the University of Levden and a tour of Brussels fol lows. C. Penney company. It was announced by Sid Elliot, manager. McKensle succeeds Lowell Paup, who became malinger of the Penney store in Sllverton last week. "In keeping with the J. C. Penney policy of hiring local people and promoting them to the Important positions, Mr. McKenste has been advanced to assistantship here." Elliot said. McKenile has been with the Klamath Penney store since 1938, except for two .wars spent with the coast guard during the war. The McKenile family wife, Janls, and twin boys. Don and Ron make their home at 2019 Manianita. Flood Delays Parcel Post Parcel post mail from the east to Klamath Palls which is routed through Portland has been held up somewhere along the way due to flood conditions. This information was reported today by local postal authorities. First class mall from Uie east is coming through, however. Superin tendent of Malls Wall' Scheck, said.
