Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Sharp and on and Mrs, Sharp Sr., were din ner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Art Monroe on Friday evening. Mrs. Ivan Bold spent Wednesday With Mrs. Ell Ross. Esther Brown, 4-H leader, organ' teed the -H canning club Wednes' day afternoon at the school house. There were 31 girls present and Annie Lou Romstredt and Adelle Brown will be assistant leaders. Sylvia Robison spent Wednesday and Thursday in Langell valley with Shirley Depuy. Helen Gowen, Klamath Falls, spent the week-end with her par- ants, Mr, and Mrs. Ed uowen and attended graduation exercises. Fol lowing the graduation, Mr. and Mrs. Gowen and Helen, Don Horsley, Ted Pepple, Patty Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pepple, Bob Pepple, Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Wells, and Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Pepple went to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Owen Pepple for refreshments and a social evening. Betty Fen ton, of Wllhts, Calif, is visiting her sister, Mrs. Jess Mc Fall and family. Margery Bromwell started work Tuesday morning in Klamath Falls at the city hall. The Moose bowling team of which Ivan Bold, Harry Bray and Eli Ross are members, placed fourteenth out of the 240 teams at the recent tour nament of western states and Can ada at Tacoma, Wash. Clara Bc'.d also placed in the women's singles. Susan House spent several days In Langell valley with her grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. House. Mr, and Mrs. Irwin Pool and son have moved from Bly to Bonanza to make their home. Friends were sorry to hear that the Parker home near Hildebrand was destroyed and all their belong ings lost. Mr. Parker was in the hospital recovering from serious burns. Mr. and Mrs. Owen Pepple have s new five-passenger coupe pur chased Wednesday in Klamath rails. Mrs. Marry Moore, accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Mattie Tremain, returned to Olene from The Forks, Calif, this week-end. Mrs. Moore tnaohes there each winter and spends the summer months here with Mr. Moore who la ditch rider in this vicinity. Quests at the Leo Donovan home are Mrs. Donovan's sister and brother-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Glen Fouch and small son and daughter. The Fouch family resides in San Bernar dino. Mrs. Jack Marshall Is entertaining members of the Mt Laki club at her north Poe valley home Thursday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. O'Brien are busy working on their Lost River acreage. They are putting in a crop and renovating the house. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Lane and daughter Harriet, and Mr. Lane's mother, Mrs. Ivy Lane spent last week-end at the Lane ranch from their home near Roseburg. Mrs. Olen Wright drove to Sac ramento Saturday and will return this week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Olin of Klam ath Falls visited at the Marion Barnes home Thursday afternoon. He Is now the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Albert, his brother and sister-in-law. The Church of God in Christ is sponsoring a southern fried chicken dinner on Saturday evening, May 29, from 4 n. m. on. at the home of one of the cooks, Mrs. Ella Barnes, who lives just west of Williamson river close to the old government buildings. Everyone is urged to get ticket and attend. Rev. H. D. Williams, pastor of the Church of God in Christ, who makes the trip from Portland every other week to conduct services, was unable to be in Chiloquin on Sun day. Meetings were presided over by Mrs. H. D. Williams and by Mr. and Mrs. Cook, all of Portland. The evening of June 1 has been chosen by Helen Michel and Paul Coleman for their marriage which will be at the Open Bible Standard church with Rev. A. C. Grimes officiating. Ethel Zimmerman Is a guest of her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Zimmerman, having come down over the week-end from Portland. She left on Tuesday night for San Francisco. An Associated Press article dated May 31 from Bogota, Columbia told of a 10-year-old orphan whose par ents had been killed in a plane crash, who was being cared for at the Open Bible Standard Mission school In El Centra, Colombia. It will be interesting for local people to know that the Rev. 0. L. Turner who Is in charge of the school and of the boy is the father of Mrs. A. C. Grimes and Mrs. W. E. Johnson, wives of the present and past pastors of the local Bible Standard church. The Turners have been in Colombia for about two years and care for 60 young Colom bians. The local Missionary Society of the church this past week sent numerous boxes of clothing to the school to be used by the students and their families. Ransome Cowan, who was run over by a truck driven by Ralph Tice several weeks ago, was able to return home from the Klamath Valley hospital on Thursday eve ning but is still a long ways from complete recovery. Ed Ray last week enrolled at Oregon Vocational school and Is studying drafting. His wife has taken a job in Klamath Falls and their young son, Danny, has been spending the days with Mrs. A. C. Grimes. The Rays plan to move to Klamath Falls by the end of the month. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wade of Bumey, Calif., were visitors last week in Chiloquin, their home until this past January. Week-end guests In Chiloquin were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Warren of Redding. The Warrens brought with them baskets nf ta -. from their garden to be used for church decoration for Sunday eve ning's baccalaureate service. Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Gienger and Leroy Jr., were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Whiting on Sunday evening. Dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Ma this on Sun day were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wamp Jer, Jim, Bill, Bob and Kathryn Wampler, Hollis Mathls, John Brad ley and the Mathls family. Mrs. Mayfield and Mrs. Brad ley were not seriously injured in the car accident of last Thursday afternoon and were able to return to their homes. Guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Collins over the week end were Lester Wilson of Arling ton. Wash., and Elvin Unruh from Kansas. The group traveled to Ash land on Monday afternoon for the final services for Mrs. Sylvester Unruh. Dr. and Mrs. Barton Peden of Seattle, formerly of Chiloquin, were overnight guests this week of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Staiger. The Pedens were returning home from Southern California where then- son David has recently been married. The fire department was called out Saturday evening and again on Tuesday. At 8 o'clock on Satur day evening the vacant house be tween the Margaret Dumore and J. E. McCain residences caught fire and burned down but was kept from spreading to adjoining build ings. On Monday evening the large house just west of Williamson river occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Asa Miller, caught fire. Much of the house was damaged. Rev. and Mrs. A. C. Grimes and their three daughters are In Eu gene this week attending the an nual conference of ministers of the Bible Standard church. Rev. Grimes will be ordained in a special cere mony before his return late this week. Ann McKell was the local senior class representative chosen to try for the Elks scholarship offered this year to a basin graduate. Prin cipal D. L. Ore., for the last eight months, pasted away in this city on Saturday, May 28, 1948 at 10 a. m. fol lowing an Illness of 18 months. She was a native of West Virginia and at the time of her death was aged 56 years 9 months and 3 days. Surviving are her husband, Guy Hank ins, and one daugh ter, Mrs. June E.
