The moat Important prob Irm la Ui decide If poaalble what la the particular cntiae In each In dividual cnan and what can be done nboul II. In many casea. unfortu nutely. Die origin of the high blood i preaaure la not known or cannot be traced. Even lor such kinds of hyprr- tension some recent developments i In treatment offer promise for al I lenat some patients. For example, : some pnttrnla have brrn glvrn a ; dirt from which not only the so dium contained In salt Is removed ' but moat of the sodium In the other foods. Table salt. Incidentally, is i sodium chloride, but the sodium I pari can appear In other comblna I lions. Thr low sodium diet Is rather complicated to prepare and prob ! ably Is not too tasty, but good re- suits In bringing about a drop in 1 blood preaaure have been reported. 'This treatment certainly will not ' amwrd the entire question of hyper tension, but at least Uie use of "low salt, low sodium" diets In certain cases Is Interesting. The so-called rice diet Is one of these low-sodium diets. CI'TTINt; NF.KVF.N IIKM'FI'I, The use of tissue extracts Is an other promlalng line of attack. An ocrallon called sympathectomy. In which certain nerves In the back nenr the spine are cut has also been used. After these nerves are severed the blood vessels expand and are able to carry more blood and the blood pressure la lowered. Tlni form of treatment has now been in use for selected patient for a good many years nnd seems lo be of real value. II Is not suitable for all j patients with hypertension. Until such time as the cause or I causes of hypertension arc oetur j understood and can be mastered at the source, these newer methods must be considered of value lor selected patients only.
