He did not disclose the number of men involved, but said one com pany is located at Whitehorse, Y. T.. and has been trained by the Royal Canadian engineers working on the highway. General Worthlngton described Alaska as "the Achilles heel of the North American continent."' "Who holds Alaska, holds a pistol at the head of tills continent," he said. The general and other speakers during the day emphasized the need for a railroad to Alaska. The association also went on rec ord for an Investigation of passenger transportation between Puget Sound and Alaska. Boom Men Facing Unfair Charges S HELTON, April 27 (JV-Charges of unfair labor practice were filed with the national labor relations board yesterday against CIO boom men here, C. H. Kreienbaum, presi dent of the Simpson Logging com pany, said today. The union, local 11-131, went on strike early this month in an effort to reopen wage negotiations. Kreienbaum said the strike has kept more than 300 non-striking workers from their jobs here. Eighty loggers have been laid off because rail shipments are being picketed. Louise Fett and Helen Wright did a comedy skit: there was another comedy skit by Louise Fett. Elsie Heman, Stella Persell and Dorothy Acker man. Deed Sterland gave a reading. Johnny Soto. Blanch McGilvray and Bennie Loftsgaard played sev eral selections. This was stag day for the aerie. In the evening there was the reg ular cocktail hour and relresn- ments. School Janitor Breaks Ankle D. C. Holt, janitor for the Keno school, suffered a fracture of the right leg above the ankle early yes terday afternoon when he was struck by a piece of the grader he was op erating to clear a track for the school.
