Prices hardened telecttvely after considerable forenoon Irregularity. Assorted oils, rails and Industrials were ahead fractions to around 3 points near the close. April 6 The body of Fred Bailey. 73-year-old retired rancher, was found late Monday floating in the Pit river near Al turas. Immediately back of the home of Modoc county District Attorney Charles Lederer. Officers today are trying to de termine whether Bailey died a na tural death or was murdered. Mrs. Agnes Wall of Alturas spot ted the man's body In the river about 5:30 p. m. A mark on the man's head may indicate that he was struck a heavy blow and Lederer said that Bailey may have been dead when his body w-ent into the river. There was no water in his lungs to Indicate death bv drowning. An autopsy was being performed today In an effort to determine cause of death. Bailey was an old-timer around Alturas and used to run a ranch. Witnesses who might know how long his bodv had been In the river were being sought.
