McLaughlin, pilot of the Ill-fated army reserve plane which crashed Friday night on Pil chuck peak, was a veteran pilot with many months of wartime service. He served 20 months in the Asiatic Pacific theater where he flew 186 combat missions In P-38. P-39 and P-47 fighter craft. His decorations Include the Distinguished Flying Cross the Air Medal with two clust ers and a Presidential Unit Citation. He was bom In Nashville, Tenn., 29 years ago where his mother pow re sides.
